“Are you awake, Lady Uston? We’ll be arriving at Flima Castle soon!”

“Oh, yes! Thank you for letting me know!”

I replied and pulled the hood I’d taken off back over my head. Soon, the carriage reached Flima Castle. In front of the castle’s main gate, only a handful of merchants and townspeople waited for the drawbridge to lower. The Duke parked the carriage behind the thick corner of the castle wall so we wouldn’t be noticed. I opened the carriage door and said to him,

“Thank you for the ride, Your Grace. I’ll head back on my own now.”

“Shall I not escort you all the way inside the castle?”

“No, it’s fine. Once the drawbridge lowers, my maid will come out to meet me.”

The Duke nodded in understanding. I stopped him just as he stood to escort me and leaped out of the carriage. After exchanging brief nods with Gwen and Roger on the driver’s seat, I turned to the Duke, who was still watching me from inside the carriage, and said,

“Then I’ll see you in the capital, Your Grace.”

“I’ll be waiting.”

The Duke said, fixing his gaze on me.

I responded with a glance and turned away without hesitation. Soon, the carriage carrying him departed. I slowly walked toward the drawbridge, my eyes following the receding carriage. For some reason, it felt regretful to see his carriage fade into the distance. Strange—I, who haven’t even finished my revenge yet, am feeling this way.

‘This isn’t the time for such thoughts.’

I gave a bitter, self-mocking smile.

Just then, the first chime announcing morning rang out, and Flima Castle’s drawbridge slowly descended. People lined up in a single file to pass through the main gate. I stood at the very end of the line, waiting for the person who would come greet me.
