I jolted awake with surprise.

What came into view was Roilot collapsed on the ground with his wrist pierced clean through by the sharp tip of an arrow, and Duke Haven aiming a crossbow at him. As the Duke confirmed that the fallen Roilot was secured and lowered his crossbow, knights rushed through the smoke and bound Roilot in chains. Only then did I let out a difficult sigh of relief.

“Are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere?”

The Duke approached me and asked. Overwhelmed with relief that I had survived unscathed, I held back tears that threatened to well up and answered him.

“Yes. I’m fine.”

For a moment, his face clouded with embarrassment.

“Your Grace?”

“……I made a mistake.”

The Duke casually pushed it back into his robe pocket as if it were nothing. Then he reached into the opposite pocket and pulled out a white cloth, handing it to me.

“Here, use this to wipe yourself.”
