The more I whispered into his ear, the more the Duke’s initially incredulous expression gradually stiffened into something strange. By the time I finished speaking and stepped back to sit slightly apart from him, he let out a faint, hollow chuckle.

The Duke turned to me and said,

“…If everything goes according to your plan, it would be ideal. But I’m still uncertain whether events will truly unfold as you expect.”

“Don’t worry. God is on my side.”

Hadn’t I already returned from death itself?

Armed with full knowledge of everything that had happened in the past and holding in my hands all the weaknesses of those who ruined me,

I gave him a bright, reassuring smile. The Duke stared at me silently for a moment, then abruptly looked away with a stiff expression.

After finishing my conversation with Duke Haven, I left the mansion and immediately returned to Marquis Uston’s estate.

As I climbed the stairs toward my bedroom through the back gate, I ran into Annie, who was just cleaning there.

“Oh! Miss! You’re back?”

“Perfect timing, Annie. I have a favor to ask.”

“Anything you need, just say the word.”

Annie playfully thumped her chest with a fist. I smiled warmly at her and continued,

“I’d like to use the carriage tomorrow morning….”

“…Ah. Should I contact the Carriage Guild again, like yesterday?”

She lowered her voice to ask. I shook my head and replied a little more loudly,

“No. This time, I’ll use the estate’s own carriage.”

“Really? Are you sure that’s alright? Matters concerning the master should be handled discreetly, shouldn’t they?”

“Yes, it’s fine. Tomorrow, I’m going out to get fitted for the dress I’ll wear next weekend.”

“…Oh, right! We could just summon the dressmaker to the estate. Ugh, alright. I’ll inform Mr. Carter right away.”

Still seeming confused by my decision, Annie grumbled slightly as she descended the stairs. I watched her for a moment before continuing up toward my bedroom.

Then, from a corner of the lower corridor—out of sight from where Annie and I had stood—a suspicious presence stirred.

I faintly sensed the sound of footsteps, too quiet to hear unless I strained my ears, quickly fading away, and inwardly scoffed.

‘So, Danae, you’ve assigned someone to follow me because you want to know why I’ve been going out so often?’

Truthfully, I’d noticed those suspicious eyes trailing me since I entered the annex, but I deliberately pretended not to. Even that was part of my intention.

Most likely, within minutes both my uncle and Danae would learn that I planned to leave the estate tomorrow to get fitted for a dress.

Wearing a cold smile, I headed to my bedroom. Indeed, I was looking forward to tomorrow.

* * *

The next morning,

after eating the breakfast Annie had prepared and taking a quick bath, I hurried to get ready to go out. I chose a sky-blue dress with a hint of gray and a wide-brimmed hat. When I stepped out of the annex entrance with Annie, Mr. Carter, the coachman, was already waiting for us.

The middle-aged man, with gray hair and a kindly face, greeted me with a cheerful smile as he approached.

“Good morning, Miss Christine. Shall I help you into the carriage?”

“Thank you. I’ll be counting on you again today.”

With polite grace, I took Mr. Carter’s offered hand and stepped onto the carriage’s first step as he bowed slightly.

“Sister!”

At that moment, Danae’s voice called out to me, accompanied by the sound of quick footsteps.

I deliberately turned to her with a look of mild surprise and said,

“…Danae? What are you doing up so early? Isn’t this the time you’d usually still be asleep?”

“Well… I just happened to wake up earlier than usual. I thought I’d join you for breakfast and maybe chat a little… But—where are you going?”

“Yes. I’m going out to get fitted for the dress I’ll wear next weekend. So, I’m sorry, but let’s have breakfast together another time.”

I spoke in a gentle, fabricated tone, sensing her eyes quickly scanning my attire. Danae’s eyebrows drooped as she replied,

“Wow, lucky you, Sister. Can I come along? I need a dress for next week’s party too.”

“…It’s not that you can’t, but don’t you already have several dressmakers who work exclusively for you? Aren’t you supposed to get your dress from that person again this time?”

“They always bring me the same kind of dresses—it’s boring! I want to try something new, with different fabrics or styles!”

“…Hmm.”

“Oh, come on, Sister! Let me go with you! Won’t it be more fun with me there so you won’t get bored?”

Danae’s pleading, childlike expression was undeniably cute and charming—which only made it more repulsive.

I wanted to lash out at that face, which could lie so casually despite already knowing exactly where I was going and what I intended to do today—but I held back.

After feigning hesitation for a moment, I sighed as if relenting and said,

“…Fine, alright. Come along.”

“Really?”

“Yes. I’ll wait here, so go get ready quickly.”

“Yay! Thank you, Sister! I’ll hurry and change into an outing dress!”

With a bright voice, Danae dashed off, her crimson outing dress fluttering dazzlingly.

As soon as she disappeared from view, I quickly climbed into the carriage. Annie followed me in, pouting, and whispered into my ear,

“Ugh, why did you agree to let her come along? It’s obvious she’ll pester you nonstop again—‘Does this suit you? Does that suit you?’—and she’ll insist on trying on every fabric you pick, never letting you actually choose a dress properly!”

“I know. She’ll probably do exactly that today too… completely unaware that her behavior is the very thing pushing her into a trap.”

“…What?”

“Nothing. And it’s alright. Hasn’t Danae been acting like this for ages?”

I patted Annie’s shoulder gently as I spoke in a kind tone.

A few minutes later, Danae returned dressed in her new outfit, accompanied by her maid Emma, and they both climbed into the carriage. Soon after, with a stomp of Mr. Carter’s foot, the carriage slowly rolled out of the estate.

* * *

Following my instructions, Mr. Carter drove the carriage to the city of Ringket, located on the western outskirts of the Imperial capital.

Thanks to its mild climate and expansive pastures, this city had long been famous across the continent for its wool-based textile industry. I had the carriage stop before a bustling shop filled with passersby. Annie and I stepped down first, and Danae, following us, grumbled,

“We could’ve just gone to a dressmaker inside the capital. Did we really have to come all the way out here?”

“Don’t complain, Danae. You were the one who insisted on coming along.”

“…Still! Ugh, it’s annoying. My back hurts.”

When I scolded her, Danae puffed out her cheeks petulantly.

Ignoring her complaints, I walked into the shop. The dressmaker, who had been sewing while wearing a monocle, immediately stood up to greet us.

“Welcome! Have you come for a dress fitting?”

“Yes. I sent a letter ahead yesterday.”

“My apologies, but may I ask your name, milady?”

“I’m Christine Saphiel Uston. And that young lady over there is my cousin, Danae Rubina Uston.”

“Ah! Lady Christine, Marchioness of Uston! We’ve been expecting you! This way, please!”

The dressmaker bowed deeply and led Danae and me toward the inner part of the shop.

There, opulent dresses in various stages of creation, richly dyed fabrics, embroidery, and ornaments were displayed in lavish abundance—far beyond anything shown outside for modest townsfolk with thinner purses. I pretended to admire the exquisite fabrics and ornaments the dressmaker presented.

“Oh! How lovely!”

Unlike me, Danae’s eyes sparkled with delight as she listened to the dressmaker’s explanations—until suddenly, she pointed toward a corner of the shop and exclaimed.

Hanging there was a nearly finished dress: a sleeveless gown in silver with a faint blue sheen, its entire left shoulder encrusted with crystals that glittered brilliantly in the sunlight streaming through the slightly open window.

Danae stared at the star-like dress as if entranced, then turned to the dressmaker and asked,

“How much is that dress? I’ll buy it—let me try it on right now.”

“…I’m sorry, miss, but that dress already has a designated owner… Perhaps you’d like to choose another?”

The dressmaker answered with an uneasy expression. Danae’s eyes narrowed sharply, and she pressed,

“An owner? I don’t know who this ‘owner’ is, but is she from a family of higher status than mine?”

“A-Ah, no, that’s not it…”

“Then it doesn’t matter. Just tell her I’ve bought it, so she can look for another dress.”

“That’s impossible, miss. That dress has been in production specifically for her since several months ago. Besides, it likely wouldn’t fit you, Marchioness.”

“What do you mean by that? Are you saying I’m too fat for that dress?”

Seeing the dressmaker wouldn’t easily yield, Danae raised her voice. Her maids took a cautious step back, glancing nervously at the scene.

I stepped between Danae and the dressmaker and said to her,

“Calm down, Danae. That’s not what he meant.”

“If it’s not that, then what is it? Either way, he’s saying that dress doesn’t suit me or won’t fit me!”

“Danae, please don’t twist his words. He simply means the dress already belongs to someone else and suggests you choose another. Isn’t that clear?”

“Y-Yes, exactly. That’s precisely what I meant.”

With my support, the dressmaker seemed to gain a bit of courage and added in a small voice toward Danae.

But this only seemed to anger her further, and she shrieked even more loudly, her voice rising in fury.

Regret With All Your Might (Completed Main Story)

Side Story 5 Side Story 4

Male lead is a Divorced Husband

She said to him: “Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change it!”

Liu Changning transmigrated into a female cannon fodder character in a female-dominant novel.

After reading the first half of the novel’s plot, the first thing she did upon transmigration was to divorce the Pan Jinlian-style male protagonist she had just married.

She indulged herself, pretending to be ugly and poor.

But as time passed, the way that man looked at her became more and more unusual…

Liu Changning was dumbfounded: Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change!

――

This lifetime, Pei Yuanshao was rejected by the same woman twice!

The first time, she drove him away. Forced by the situation, he endured the waves of anger in his heart, yielding and humbling himself.

That person lay slanted on a rocking chair, her sallow face emotionless: “If you don’t want a divorce, go cook!”

Pei Yuanshao’s face was dark and gloomy: “You!”

The second time, after the crisis in Jinling City was resolved, the new emperor sent someone to pick him up. He turned around, stammering: “I… I have to go. If you keep me…”

That person lay on the kang bed, her back to him, as if she had long anticipated this day, crisp and clear: “Goodbye!”

Pei Yuanshao was so angry his fingers trembled: “You… you!”

The mission of family and country made him restrain himself, averting his eyes and turning to leave this broken household.

Two years later, they met again. Seeing her ethereal face, his body shook like a sieve.

“She was originally a ‘she’!”

At the Qionglin Banquet, the top scholar of the imperial examination, a talented person with exceptional speech and conduct, all the unmarried young gentlemen from aristocratic families looked at her with shy and timid eyes.

The peerless imperial official Pei Yuanshao felt the anger in his heart erupt. He pointed at the woman surrounded by the crowd at the Qionglin Banquet, his thin lips slightly curled: “Little sister, I wants that person to be the wife-master of my Mingde Prince Manor.”
