How To Get Revenge On My Sister Who Stole My Husband (16 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 12
“Thank you for thinking so highly of me. ……I’ve prepared some precious Eastern tea for you—would you care for a cup?”
“Oh, no! How could I possibly drink tea with Viscount Leonard! Your words alone are more than enough gratitude.”
The jester waved his hands, declining Leonard’s offer just as I had instructed. At his overly deferential demeanor, Leonard gave a slight, understanding nod and murmured,
“In that case, there’s nothing more to be done. Take care on your way.”
“Yes, Viscount. Then I shall take my leave now.”
The jester bowed to Leonard with almost exaggerated courtesy, then took the contract and exited.
I followed him out, casting a sidelong glance back at Leonard. He was whispering to the butler, clutching a pouch of gold coins, seemingly completely indifferent to someone like me—now disguised as a servant.
Satisfied, I walked briskly down the long corridor and climbed into the carriage waiting at the mansion’s front gate.
Soon, the door closed and the carriage—bearing both the jester and me—began to move slowly. After a while, it arrived at a secluded alley leading into the slums. The jester handed me the contract and said,
“Here it is, my lady.”
“Good work.”
I replied coldly on purpose, took the contract, and handed him the pouch filled with gold coins.
“Thank you, my lady!”
With a servile bow, he expressed his gratitude repeatedly before quickly stepping down from the carriage and vanishing into the dark slum alley.
After a short while, his footsteps faded away. Only then did I remove the mask I’d been wearing.
“…Hah.”
I let out a deep sigh.
I’d worried that Leonard might recognize me, but thankfully, that never happened. Grateful for his obliviousness, I tucked the contract securely into my inner pocket.
Meanwhile, the coachman—awaiting my instructions—called out to me.
“Where to next, my lady?”
Without hesitation, I answered,
“Take me to 14 Royal Street.”
“Understood.”
That was the address of a townhouse owned by the Uston family, quite close to where I lived.
Feeling the carriage start moving again, I took out the maid’s uniform I’d prepared earlier. It was time for another disguise to safely return to the mansion.
* * *
A short while later,
the carriage carrying me arrived at 14 Royal Street.
Having already changed into the maid’s outfit inside the carriage, I immediately entered through the mansion’s back entrance. Crossing the garden, I passed through my bedroom door—still thankfully locked—and took a moment to catch my breath while checking the time. Fortunately, I wasn’t too late. Hurriedly, I stripped off the maid’s uniform and changed into a comfortable nightgown and robe.
Knock knock.
“Miss? Are you still asleep?”
Just as I was adjusting my clothes, Annie’s voice came through a soft knock at the door.
Pretending to be drowsy, I replied,
“…No, I’m awake. What is it? Anything wrong?”
“His Grace the Marquis has returned. He’s looking for you and told me to bring you to the main house’s reception room.”
“…Oh?”
I glanced once more at the wall clock. This was an unusually early return for the Marquis.
‘After being humiliated at His Majesty’s birthday banquet and with his political ally, Marquis Clayne, still imprisoned in the Tower, he must be quite anxious. That’s why he needs my help.’
A faint, twisted smile tugged at one corner of my lips.
Of course, I intended to help him willingly. On the surface, it might seem beneficial to Marquis Uston—but ultimately, it would steer him straight toward ruin.
I unlocked the door and spoke to Annie, who stood outside.
“Got it, Annie. Come in and help me change, would you?”
“Yes, miss.”
At my words, Annie quickly stepped inside and headed straight for the dressing room adjacent to the bedroom.
After washing my face and hands with a damp cloth, I changed into a light green dress with Annie’s help. Once my preparations were swiftly complete, I headed to the main house with her.
Upon entering the reception room, I saw Marquis Uston seated at the central place of honor, with Danae seated beside him, sipping tea.
I offered a slight curtsy toward Marquis Uston.
“You sent for me, Uncle?”
“Yes, come sit here.”
Marquis Uston gestured to the seat on his left.

I obediently took the seat as instructed. Danae immediately scanned me from head to toe and remarked,
“They said you napped and sent all the maids away—don’t tell me you just woke up now?”
“Yeah. I was a bit tired.”
I replied flatly. Danae studied me with a strange look and said,
“Oh? Why’s that? Your outings have been unusually frequent these past few days—is that why?”
It was clearly a probing remark.
Maintaining a perfectly calm expression, I replied as if it meant nothing.
“Yeah, exactly. I had to sort out the aftermath of His Majesty’s birthday banquet. And also deal with the matter of Marquis Clayne—…Father’s imprisonment in the Tower.”
“…What? Sister! You met Leonard—I mean… Viscount Leonard alone?”
Hearing that, Danae blurted out in a slightly agitated tone.
I barely suppressed the urge to openly mock her and simply said,
“Yes, I did. Is there a problem? He’s my fiancé, after all.”
My sharp retort caught her off guard; she stammered awkwardly, flustered as though she’d made a mistake.
“Ah—no… of course there’s no problem… It’s just—I wish you’d taken me along. I was bored alone at the mansion.”
“It wasn’t a leisurely outing. It was strictly family business that needed discussing. If you’re upset, I’m sorry, Danae. …But honestly, I don’t understand why you’re reacting so sensitively to this.”
“Uh… what?”
“Think about it. As I just said, he’s my fiancé. Isn’t it strange that you’d get so flustered and raise your voice just because we met alone? Don’t you think?”
“…I—well… it’s just that I felt a little hurt you left me behind…”
When I pressed her, Danae twisted her expression slightly and offered what sounded like an excuse.
Her reddened eyes clearly betrayed her embarrassment and jealousy, which I read with ease. Inwardly, I scoffed.
‘What’s so hurtful about it? Just be honest. Say you hate the thought of your lover meeting me alone behind your back.’
In my past life, I’d been completely fooled by Danae’s innocent act—pretending to adore me as a sweet younger cousin while feigning pure intentions toward Leonard.
But after dying once and realizing her true nature, her schemes now seemed painfully transparent.
Her complete lack of effort in hiding her feelings was both disgusting and laughable.
‘Don’t worry so much, Danae. I don’t need him at all.’
Go ahead and take him. I’ll give him to you—just not yet. I silently told her.
‘Not until there’s absolutely nothing left for you and him. Not until everyone turns their backs on you both. Only when you’ve fallen so utterly, pathetically low that you’re worth less than trash—will I fully hand him over to you.’
Masking the boiling hatred welling up inside me, I gave Danae a faint, gentle smile.
“So that’s what hurt you. I’m sorry, Danae.”
“Oh—no, sister. I’m the one who should apologize.”
Though my apology was utterly insincere, Danae accepted it hesitantly, fidgeting nervously. At that moment, Marquis Uston cleared his throat and interjected,
“Ahem. Danae, Christine—that’s enough chit-chat for now. That’s not why I called you here.”
He then turned to me and continued,
“Christine, I heard you instructed Viscount Leonard to sell off land to raise the Marquis’s bail money?”
“Yes. Fortunately, a merchant appeared willing to buy one of Father’s estates at a favorable price.”
“An estate? Which one?”
“Anwort Castle, Uncle.”
“A buyer for that useless tract of land? And for how much?”
Frowning slightly in disbelief, the Marquis asked me. I deliberately gave a knowing smile, then stretched out my palm and traced the amount onto it for him to see.
His eyes widened in shock as he exclaimed,
“He paid that much gold for that land? Who in the world…?”
“A foreigner passing through the Empire. He wished to build a quiet mansion on Imperial land with a sea view, so I told Leonard, ‘Sell Anwort Estate to that merchant.’”
“Well done, Christine! This solves the Marquis Clayne issue completely!”
“Yes. He should be safely released from the Tower within this week.”
I smiled brightly at the Marquis as I spoke.
Clearly pleased, the Marquis set down his teacup and chuckled lightly. Resting his elbows on his knees, he rubbed his fingertips together and continued,
“…Now the only thing left is to mend His Majesty the Emperor’s wounded pride from the birthday banquet incident. Hah, that damn old man. He claimed it didn’t bother him then, yet keeps dropping bitter remarks about that jewel during Imperial Council meetings.”
“…I see.”
“Surely there must be a good solution, Christine?”
“Well… I’m not entirely sure…”

To Marquis Uston’s question, I deliberately trailed off vaguely.
Truthfully, I had no desire to personally fix the mess I’d carefully orchestrated. On the contrary, I wanted to see him grow even more hated by the Emperor—until he lost all favor and was utterly ruined.
How could I secretly make it seem as though I hadn’t sabotaged them, while still plunging Marquis Uston back into crisis? Pretending to ponder solutions for the Marquis, I schemed ways to destroy him instead.
Then, my eyes happened to catch the glimmer of Danae’s ornate dress hem—and in that instant, an idea flashed brightly through my mind.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
