“Phew, all done.”

Just as he was about to protest, Emlyn pulled his hand away from Elliott’s face. Simultaneously, the pain and strange tingling sensation vanished completely. Emlyn gave a slight grin toward Elliott, who was absentmindedly touching his own face, then pointed toward the mansion’s main gate.

“It seems they’re about to change shifts soon. Let’s slip past the main gate while those guards gather at their post.”

Elliott gave a brief nod.

Moments later, two soldiers approached the guard post in front of the main gate from the garden. Emlyn grabbed Elliott’s wrist and swiftly passed through the gate while the soldiers were busy chatting at their post. Elliott, bewildered, was pulled along into the mansion. He turned to Emlyn with a weary expression and said,

“We got inside the mansion far more easily than I expected.”

“All thanks to me, of course. Come on, this way, right?”

After a quick exchange of glances, the two hurried across the mansion’s garden. Soon, they arrived at the western annex and briefly concealed themselves near the servants’ quarters set up in front of it. Elliott watched as Emlyn closed his eyes and reached a hand toward the annex, then asked,

“Do you sense anything?”

“Ancient defensive magic, a witch’s curse… some strange force… and I can feel the young lady and her maid as well.”

As Emlyn spoke, Elliott immediately reached for his sword, but Emlyn quickly grabbed his arm.

“Wait. First, we need to break the defensive magic on that prison. Only then can we use teleportation magic inside. Knocking out the guards comes after that.”

“How long will it take?”

“Three minutes—no, two will be enough. I’ll need to focus solely on the spell, so Duke, cover me from behind and make sure no one interrupts me.”
