“Peep!”

Pipi seemed in high spirits.

After completing a major task, Pipi was eating the walnuts Rasilia was giving it, rubbing its head generously against her shoulder and cheek.

“Peeppeep!”

The chirps conveyed that it was quite proud of today’s work, but also that it was tired from the long trip to the temple.

“Yes, I know. You did very well.”

Pipi readily opened its mouth to receive the walnut that Rasilia offered with a smile.

As Rasilia was about to take a sip from her water cup, Yvette who was sewing at a corner asked,

“Should I get more walnuts? You’re going through them quickly.”

“No, what we have should be enough.”

“Even though you consume them so rapidly?”

“I’m already quite full, can’t eat more.”

“Peep…”

Pipi lightly covered its belly with its small wings. Yvette suppressed her laughter, finding it adorable.

“So, where were you since dawn? What were you doing with the Duke of Schraiden?”

“Peep!”

As Rasilia affectionately stroked its head and asked, Pipi flapped its wings.

It had learned how to hunt from the Duke of Schraiden, who, despite being a duke, had never actually caught prey with his own hands, so he had gone around looking for a bird who could properly teach him.

“Why suddenly interested in hunting? Aren’t you going to stay in the palace?”

“Peep!”

“Oh… did Her Majesty say something?”

“Peep! Peep!”

It was a morning quarrel.

Pipi had been peacefully sleeping when suddenly its neck was gripped and it was jerked awake. The culprit was the Emperor, who told it to stop sleeping and go catch some bugs to eat like a proper bird.

Unable to believe what had happened, Pipi bit him, but not a drop of blood appeared. The Emperor mocked its immature beak, stating that if it kept receiving food, it would end up a plump, lazy bird.

“Wow… such harsh words.”

“Peep!”

Frustrated, Pipi hurled insults at the Emperor. Though the words were rough, they essentially meant that the Emperor was a truly despicable human.

“I never saw that side of him… ”

Rasilia tilted her head.

The Emperor that Pipi spoke of seemed vastly different from the one she knew. Though he had stubborn tendencies, he was not a malicious person who would purposely say infuriating things.

“Peep!”

Pipi became indignant, as if offended that Rasilia didn’t believe him.
In truth, Pipi had a rather bad temperament as well. Even earlier when the birds had crowded the window, it had immediately shown its bad mood.

“Tweet! Tweet!”

Anyway, the Emperor had said that you don’t need to be too nice to such a bad person. Putting them to sleep in the same bed was more than sufficient.

“Mm… I agree with that. If the three of us sleep together, who knows if we’ll have nightmares.”

“A dream where a bird resembling you and a demon resembling the Emperor are fighting.”

“I couldn’t see who won.”

Rasilia lightly laughed and stroked Pipi.

“But there won’t be nightmares anymore. The Blue Moon has ended.”

Suddenly, it crossed her mind that the Emperor seemed unchanged even after the Blue Moon had ended.

“Hmm? Your Majesty, is something the matter?”

Had her expression changed? Yvette picked up on it.

“…No, nothing is wrong. Did His Majesty mention returning to the Imperial Palace today?”

Yvette answered.

“No, Your Majesty, I’ve heard nothing of the sort.”

Then what is going to happen today?

(This is a time separator.)

Shush.

It was a very quiet sound.

Rascal lifted his head.

There was a new shadow in the previously empty office.

“You’ve come in person today.”

“Yes, Your Majesty. It’s been a while.”

The person kneeling on one knee and placing a hand on their chest in greeting was the third shadow knight, Dekan.

Rascal looked at Dekan and twitched his nose.

“Have you been far away?”

“…Yes, Your Majesty.”

A moment of awkwardness flashed across Dekan’s face. He was prepared, but he couldn’t deceive Rascal’s attention.

It was common for the silver shield to empty the capital depending on the role. However, staying abroad for an extended period required authorization.

Dekan had been far away without telling the other shadow knights.

There must have been a good reason, and Rascal knew it.

“I’ll put off the matter of discipline. Report today’s matters first.”

Dekan stood up.

“I assume you’ve heard about the accident. We found feathers at the scene of Viscount Pashad’s carriage accident. There were minor injuries but no deaths, and the Viscount and his wife have returned to their territory.”

“Feathers?”

“It appears that multiple birds caused the accident.”

“Birds, you say.”

Rascal’s expression softened for a moment but quickly turned unpleasant again.

“So the immature ones know how to fly. It irritates me.”

“Yes…?”

It was the first time Dekan had ever heard Rascal mention his mood. The other shadow knights had somewhat adapted, but unfortunately, Dekan, who had been away from the capital, had not.

Rascal looked at a slightly flustered Dekan and continued speaking.

“And?”

“…?”

“You wouldn’t have come in person just to say that much. Spit out what you really have to say.”

“Ah… of course, Your Majesty.”

Dekan adjusted his expression. He returned to the face of a knight holding a silver shield.

Dekan had something important to report to the Emperor today.

“The place I visited was Trinidad, Your Majesty.”
