“Was this why you insisted on a trial?”
There was nowhere to run.
Rasilia was barefoot. The shadow knights, who could run much faster than her in bare feet, blocked her escape.
Thump, thump…
In the meantime, the Emperor approached.
“Strange… you have no reason to like this.”
Rescal, who had stopped just short of Rasilia’s nose, tilted his head.
His eyes were both sharp and confused.
“You said you lost your memory. You would not remember the Count.”
His eyes then turned toward Rasilia’s hand, clenched by Ternadan.
“Let go.”
“No… I can’t.”
Ternadan clenched his teeth and spoke nonsense.
“I can’t let go.”
“What if you don’t?”
Rescal grabbed Ternadan’s opposite wrist.
“What can the count do?”
“If I let go of my sister here…, …Ah!”
Ternadan screamed abruptly in the middle of his sentence.
A thud came from the wrist that Rescal held. Ternadan’s expression twisted horribly.
“Let go.”
“No, I can’t…”
Thud!
“Aaah!”
The one who finally broke the situation was Rasilia.
“Let go, Your Majesty.”
Rescal slowly turned his gaze.
“If you let go of that.”
“I’ve already let go.”
“…”
Somehow, Rasilia had managed to pull her hand away from Ternadan, who was disoriented from pain. It happened while Ternadan was unaware.
“Sister!”
Ternadan called Rasilia with sad eyes.
Rasilia gave him a slight nod as if to express her regret.
“…Then.”
Swish!
Rescal released Ternadan’s wrist abruptly.
“Arrest him.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
Serven quickly grabbed Ternadan and handed him over to the guards.
“Sister! No! …You can’t!”
As Ternadan was dragged away, he screamed. His unrequited love somehow hurt.
“The conversation is going to be long.”
Rescal brushed back his disheveled hair.
“We’d better return to the palace.”
He took Rasilia’s hand. Her hand reflexively recoiled.
“…”
Rescal reached out again. Rasilia stepped back to avoid him.
“…It seems you still don’t know.”
Rescal looked at his empty hand for a moment.
“You can’t go anywhere without me. The area is completely sealed. Trackers will follow you wherever you try to go. Running away is over.”
“So, you’re telling me to go back as if nothing happened? To go back and live as the Empress? In this situation?”
The plan had failed.
The Count who was supposed to help me was robbed of part of the ceremony by the temple, and Count Piellion, who was going to help me escape, was captured by the guards.
There was nothing left to do.
All that remained for Rasilia was to anxiously await when the Emperor would kill her.
‘I can’t live like this.’
Rasilia clenched her teeth.
‘I can’t die like this. I can’t accept such a death.’
So she had to do something.
“I can’t do that, Your Majesty.”
“Then what can you do?”
Rescal twisted his lips as he asked.
“You are barefoot. You have only the clothes on your body. You have no one left to help. What more do you intend to do in this situation?”
“At the very least, I can say that I don’t want to be by Your Majesty’s side.”
“…What?”
His twisted lips twisted his entire expression. The familiar expressionlessness seemed to break in that moment.
“I cannot be Your Majesty’s companion. I realized it when I heard that the mark is fading. It’s proof that I’m not your companion. Find your real companion before it’s too late. I know you don’t have much time, Your Majesty.”
“You’re talking nonsense.”
Rescal refused to hear her words.
“You are my companion.”
“No, didn’t you say the mark is fading?”
“Do you believe the temple’s indictment rather than my eyes? There’s no reason for that. No cleric has ever confirmed your mark.”
Unless she undresses to prove it right here, Rescal will not believe that the mark is fading.
“That’s how I feel.”
So Rasilia’s words grew more bitter.
“Why would someone incapable of love play the part of a companion? I cannot love Your Majesty. Perhaps my heart belongs to another, even if I don’t remember.”
Thump.
Rascal clenched his fists. The white joints seemed painful, like scales protruding.
“Is it the Viscount?”
“I heard rumors that I was involved with him. It must be true.”
“How can you know that just from a rumor?”
“Didn’t you just see? How he treats me. A man who has given up everything for my sake. It’s harder not to feel affection.”
“…….”
Rascal closed his eyes tightly.
“Then take whatever I have, anything.”
“No. One such person is enough. And the Viscount has already become that person.”
“I can’t… believe it.”
Rascal opened his eyes.
Thump, the darkness spread around his pupils.
No, it wasn’t darkness. It was black scales.
“Your Majesty!”
The Shadow Knights shouted in surprise, but the transformation didn’t stop.
“You’ve been mine since birth, as I’ve been yours. You couldn’t possibly harbor feelings for another.”
Thump, his forehead split. Blood ran down the torn flesh. Horns would grow from the gap if the transformation continued.
“Your Majesty……”
Rasilia couldn’t speak.
The Emperor’s appearance was changing even without a Blue Moon. It meant he was going through a significant upheaval that he couldn’t control his demonic blood.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
