Her tall figure was elegant in the form-fitting dress. Even from afar, her shy smile upon her face was strikingly clear.

Grace Tanner reddened her cheeks and said something, and Axel shook his head. Yet even he appeared far more at ease than when surrounded by other women whose presence he didn’t even recognize.

Then, at last, Axel gave a faint smile. Grace’s face brightened with a smile of her own.

For an instant, her heart thudded and plummeted toward her feet.

Jade instinctively clenched her trembling fingers and hid them. The sight of Axel’s cool eyes curving upward made her toes curl with nervousness.

Just as before, Axel and Grace seemed outwardly well-matched—their height, their sturdy frames, and their knightly long limbs all aligned perfectly.

Unconsciously, she glanced down at herself.

Her own height was modest, her frame slender.

Standing beside Axel, she knew full well it would never look harmonious, no matter how one viewed it.

She knew her thoughts right now were utterly irrational. After all, it was not Grace Tanner but Jade Broen who had kissed Axel.

His feelings belonged to her. Jade knew Axel.

In truth, Axel himself should have been the one angry now—after all, he’d just caught sight of her dancing with another man despite her complicated circumstances, which prevented her from even announcing him as her fiancé.

But jealousy held no logic.

For some reason, she was furious. Jade couldn’t bear to watch them smiling at each other. She didn’t even care what they were talking about—it simply infuriated her.

Perhaps it was because Grace Tanner sometimes gave her the uneasy feeling that she understood Axel better than Jade herself did.
