“Did you perhaps have a secret meeting while I was away?”

Despite clearly seeing and hearing his gaze, words, and every action, Katharine couldn’t understand at all.

When his fingertips gripping her chin began to caress her lower lip like a thin snake, her impulse to flee this room immediately turned into certainty.

Katharine shoved his chest hard and ran out of the room.

She ran frantically in the darkness.

The chilly night air seeped deep into her lungs, but it couldn’t cool her cheeks flushed with disgust.

‘I don’t want to go back to that room.’

Katharine calmly steadied her ragged breath and looked up at the night sky sprinkled like sugar powder as she walked forward.

Occasionally, guards watched her intently with wary eyes, but realizing she was a maid of the Queen of the Khan Kingdom, they said nothing.

Katharine stopped at a small pond.

She scooped up some water, cold enough to sting her skin, with both hands and splashed it on her face.

She scrubbed especially hard where his fingers had touched her lips.

As she wiped away the moisture trickling down her chin with the back of her hand, feeling the belated chill…

“Ugh…”

A man’s voice drifted on the breeze from the overgrown inner garden.

Katharine, drawn as if entranced by the groan of pain, moved her steps.

Splash, splash.

Listening to the sound of dry grass being crushed under her soles, she carefully advanced, and at the end was that man from before.

However, unlike last time when he was peacefully asleep, now his handsome face was completely contorted as if having a nightmare.

‘Is he really the Emperor’s favored close attendant?’

Duke Ludwig’s advice that she shouldn’t set foot beyond here as it was the Emperor’s area flashed through her mind momentarily.

Katharine thought she should wake him up first, and carefully approached to kneel beside him.

If it was such a painful nightmare, it would be better not to sleep at all.

“Excuse me.”

She called out in a small voice, lest she startle him, but his long, straight, elegant eyelashes showed no sign of moving.

Half unconsciously, Katharine placed her hand on his smooth forehead.

It was radiating intense heat.

“It’s alright. It’s just a dream.”

Murmuring in a barely audible voice, she stroked his forehead, and as if by magic, his panting subsided.

Why was she doing this for this arrogant man who wouldn’t even tell her his name?

‘This really is unnecessary meddling.’

If she were caught by the guards while doing this, there would be no guarantee her head wouldn’t fly off from that mad Emperor.

Just as she was about to get up, the man suddenly flung open his eyelids, and before she could react, he roughly grabbed Katharine’s waist.

He threw her down onto the grass and trapped her within his arms, preventing her from moving an inch.

The man’s eyes, looking down at her as if he had never been asleep, were bloodshot with ferocity.

“Did you see?”

The man spoke in a half-submerged voice that sounded like a beast growling.

His aura was terribly fierce.

It was natural to be surprised to find a strange woman at his bedside as soon as he woke up, but this seemed an excessively sensitive reaction.

“What…”

“Did you see me writhing in pain!”

Katharine nodded calmly, deliberately ignoring her violently pounding heart as if she had encountered a predator.

“Yes. I saw.”

No sooner had she finished speaking than the man roughly undid the shirt choking his neck and drew a sword from inside his clothes.

The blade reflected in the moonlight flashed pale like midwinter frost.

He grabbed Katharine’s neck with one hand.

As her windpipe was suddenly blocked, the threat to her life struck her whole body.

The man, gripped by madness, raised the sword into the air with the momentum of sincerely intending to kill her, not just as an empty threat.

‘Perhaps the reason he was sleeping alone in a place like this…’

Even in this situation, Katharine, who was calmly turning her thoughts without losing her composure, simply relaxed her body.

She released her tension as if to say do as you please, kill me or not, and slowly blinked her eyes.

Then the gleaming excitement in his eyes wavered slightly, and his fierce aura noticeably subsided.

Like a wolf lowering its tail after belatedly recognizing its master.

Katharine didn’t miss the moment when the grip on her neck weakened and spoke.

“I’m sorry, but may I explain for a moment? I was just passing by this area when I heard a familiar voice in pain, so I rushed over. Really, I had no other intention.”

“You think I’ll believe that?”

“If you can’t believe me, I have nothing more to say, but I don’t understand why you’re so sensitive, treating a stranger as an assassin just for approaching.”

His brows slowly drew closer together.

“You, do you not know who I am?”

“How could I know when you haven’t told me your name or position? Unfortunately, I’m not a mind reader. Oh, and I heard this is the Emperor’s garden, so shouldn’t we both leave quickly at this late hour?”

“Ha…”

He sighed heavily as if dumbfounded and tossed aside the sword he was holding with a clang.

“You really are a ridiculous woman.”

“That’s the first time I’ve been called ridiculous. I’ve been called old-fashioned, but…”

An icy silence fell.

It was meant as a joke to lighten the mood, but it seemed to have failed.

The man rubbed his face, which had become prickly with nerves on edge, then jerked his chin towards the garden entrance.

“Leave.”

“I’ll leave if you say so, but can I ask just one thing before I go?”

“Go. Now.”

“What’s your name? Just tell me that.”

Completely ignoring his warning and asking with wide eyes, he looked at her as if thinking, what kind of woman is this?

It was really strange.

Despite being such a formidable man with such a fierce aura, strangely, she wasn’t afraid of him.

How to put it, she felt an odd sense of reassurance that in front of him, she didn’t need to wear the mask of the young lady of the Roberfon viscounty, but could show her true self.

“You, can’t you understand what I’m saying?”

“I can’t keep calling you ‘hey’ or ‘you’ every time we meet.”

Katharine grumbled.

Then a strange thing happened.

The sharp hostility that had been darkening his face until just now melted away like snow, and that empty space was filled with a crooked smile.

Although it was closer to a cynical sneer.

“You want to meet me again?”

“We’ve already coincidentally met twice, so who’s to say we won’t meet again?”

“That sounds like you want to see me again. It’s best to fix habits that could lead to misunderstandings.”

“I don’t mind if you misunderstand.”

“What?”

Katharine shrugged.

“It’s true that for some reason, I thought I’d like to meet you one more time. Of course, I didn’t expect to discover you suffering from a nightmare.”

“…”

“Oh. Please keep today’s events a secret from His Majesty the Emperor. It’s because of you sleeping so fearlessly in a place like this, not because I wanted to come in here. You’ll keep it secret, right?”

For some reason, the man seemed to have forgotten how to breathe.

He just stared intently at Katharine with honey-colored eyes that revealed no thoughts, his lips pressed firmly shut.

Just then, the wind blowing from the hill below shook the branches of the flowering trees.

Flower petals that had fallen from buds that had sprouted at the peak of spring showered down like rain on the dawn breeze.

It was a scene so beautiful it seemed unreal, but Katharine couldn’t take her eyes off the man in front of her rather than that.

Because his hair flowing elegantly like silver waves made the flower rain seem utterly shabby in comparison.

“Um, why are you staring at me so blankly?”

“If he can’t forgive you.”

“What?”

“If the Emperor simply can’t forgive you, what will you do?”

“That’s nonsense. His Majesty the Emperor will insist on punishing me?”

When she opened her already large eyes round like a rabbit’s, for some reason the man bit his lip as if holding back laughter.

So that tyrant Emperor has no intention of showing mercy after all.

At this rate, it was clear that things would go wrong throughout the festival events that could have been spent peacefully.

“What terrible punishment does he say he’ll give? Even though I’m a maid from another country, surely he wouldn’t harm my body, would he?”

“Who knows. How could I know the Emperor’s mind?”

“Can’t you say something to His Majesty for me? Tell him I didn’t do anything wrong.”

“Why should I do that?”

“I even treated your injury, how can you really do this? You should repay the favor.”

“You’re making such a fuss over clumsily wrapping a torn piece of your dirty skirt.”

This wouldn’t do.

Katharine strode up and stood in front of him, thinking she might as well give him a knock on the head and run away. But as soon as she saw his face shining brightly in the moonlight up close, her body strangely froze.

Come to think of it, doesn’t this man’s voice sound a bit similar to the Emperor’s?

‘Surely he can’t be a relative of the Emperor?’

Looking closely again, even his aura seemed somewhat similar.

That relaxed attitude as if he had never bowed his head to anyone since birth.

The fact that he could sleep leisurely in the Emperor’s garden.

All circumstances indicated that he was no ordinary person.

“Al-Alright. I’ll be going now.”

It would be better to leave without irritating him further. As Katharine hastily raised her trembling legs and turned to leave quickly, his voice cut through the night air.

“Wherever you go, don’t tell anyone about me.”

“I won’t, even if you don’t say so. Of course, I won’t breathe a word about the nightmare either, so don’t worry. Everyone has things they want to hide… including me.”

He glanced at Katharine with indifferent eyes as if not particularly interested, then sat back down against the tree trunk and closed his eyes.

Feeling strangely disappointed, Katharine left the garden at a brisk pace without looking back.

Now they probably wouldn’t meet again.

Thinking this…

Save yourself from story hunger — the novel below will blow your mind!

[su_service title=”My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband” icon=”icon: star-o” size=”16″][/su_service]

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
