“You are not merely some close younger sister.”

Bi Young fixed his gaze on Yeon Woo and continued speaking.

“Do you remember me telling you that I once had a younger sibling when I was little?”

“Yes, I do. You said if they had grown up normally, they’d be about my age now.”

Yeon Woo nodded her head.

She already knew from him that Bi Young had a lost younger sibling.

“Though we’re not blood-related, you’re no different from my own sister to me.”

Bi Young and Yeon Woo, who had grown up together since childhood, shared no blood ties but were as close as family.

She was as precious to him as a real younger sister—so fragile he feared holding her would snuff her out, or lighting her would make her fly away.

Every time Bi Young looked at Yeon Woo, it felt like watching a child set adrift on water, leaving him restless and uneasy.

“Losing you would be like losing a part of myself. I never want to lose someone precious to me ever again.”

Bi Young’s eyes grew slightly sorrowful as he looked at Yeon Woo.

“So don’t throw yourself into dangerous situations. Can you promise me this much, for my sake?”

His thoughtful gaze was filled with worry and tenderness toward Yeon Woo.

Seeing the worry never leave his face, Yeon Woo offered him a warm smile, as if to reassure him.

“Yes, of course.”

“If anything difficult comes up, be sure to tell me. I’ll do everything in my power to help you.”

“Yes, I will, older brother Bi Young. Please don’t worry so much.”

Bi Young never failed to repeat his earnest warnings to Yeon Woo again and again.

Watching Yeon Woo—as a woman—serve as a soldier was utterly nerve-wracking for him.

It was fortunate that Bi Young was in this unit; just imagining Yeon Woo alone among nothing but brutish men made his head spin.

Moreover, if her true gender were discovered, she would face severe punishment for deceiving the military.

Worse still, Prince Gwang Ho’s unit was personally commanded by a royal prince.

In the worst-case scenario, she could be sentenced to death for deceiving the royal house.

Bi Young was the only one who could protect Yeon Woo here.

He silently vowed over and over that he would ensure she safely completed her time in the unit.

When they returned to the recruits’ assembly area, Dae Bok came trotting over to Yeon Woo as if he’d been waiting.

He must have come looking for her, worried after she’d been summoned by Bi Young.

His eyebrows knotted into a deep frown, Dae Bok asked anxiously,

“What did the training officer say to you?”

“Just… well… he gave me a warning.”

Yeon Woo couldn’t tell Dae Bok about her private conversation with Bi Young, so she evaded the question vaguely.

“Oh no! I knew it! From your very first day, you’ve caught the training officer’s bad side! Didn’t I tell you so!”

Hearing Yeon Woo’s words, Dae Bok stamped his feet and wailed dramatically.

Anyone watching might have mistaken him for the one who’d been called to the barracks.

“I knew the moment I saw you dressed like a scholar on your first day! How do you expect to survive this harsh military life acting so clueless!”

Of course, wearing Yeon Ho’s clothes on her first day had been her own mistake.

But she couldn’t understand why these two men were so unusually concerned about her future today.

Dae Bok soon calmed down a little from his earlier panic and spoke more composedly.

“Still, don’t worry. There’s a guiding lantern ready to light your way through this dark military life.”

“A guiding lantern? What’s that supposed to mean?”

Intrigued, Yeon Woo stared at Dae Bok, her eyes sparkling.

No matter how clumsy Dae Bok was, he was still a man—and surely knew more about military life than she, a woman, ever could.

Seeing Yeon Woo look at him with admiration, Dae Bok grinned widely.

Then he pointed at himself with his finger.

“Me.”

“….”

“I’m your guiding lantern!”

Disappointed by Dae Bok’s silly remark, Yeon Woo shot him a look full of dismay.

Of course. It was foolish of her to expect any real solution from this scatterbrained fellow.

She was about to think of how to respond to his meaningless words but decided to let it go, considering he’d come all this way out of concern for her.

However, seeing Yeon Woo’s obvious disappointment, Dae Bok pouted petulantly.

“What’s that look for?”

“Don’t misunderstand. My face just naturally looks unpleasant when I’m in a good mood.”

“You think I’m an idiot? Who on earth looks like that when they’re happy?”

Just as they bickered, a stranger’s voice called out to them from behind.

“Hey! You two rookies!”

At the sudden voice, Yeon Woo and Dae Bok turned around.

The speaker was a man with a strong jawline and sturdy build. His sunburnt skin was dark and rough.

Though dressed like the other recruits, his uniform looked even more worn and weathered.

Uncertain whether the stranger was really addressing her, Yeon Woo glanced around and asked cautiously,

“Are you talking to us?”

It was a perfectly ordinary question.

Yet to him, it seemed like a grave offense—he roughly grabbed Yeon Woo by the collar and yanked her upward.

Yeon Woo’s breath caught in her throat, and only the very tips of her toes barely touched the ground as she stood on tiptoe.

Beside her, Dae Bok’s eyes widened in shock, and he hurriedly tried to stop the man.

“W-what’s going on! Let go and talk properly!”

“Get out of my way, you pest!”

The man shoved Dae Bok aside with one rough sweep of his arm.

His strength was so absurdly immense that Dae Bok immediately landed flat on his backside where he stood.

“Ugh!”

Dae Bok let out a sharp cry as pain shot through his tailbone.

How dare this brute bully an innocent bystander like this?

Even while gasping for breath, Yeon Woo glared at the man and demanded,

“How rude! Without even stating your name, you resort to violence outright?”

“Hah! I’ve never seen such an insolent brat!”

But Yeon Woo’s reaction only further enraged the man.

His face twisted in fury, he snorted harshly and growled,

“You don’t know to lower your eyes, punk? When a senior calls you, you don’t talk back!”

Just then, Dae Bok, who had been hurriedly scanning the man’s chest, spotted the name tag pinned there.

It bore the characters “Jang Gab Dol.”

Dae Bok quickly brushed himself off and approached the man with a forced smile.

“Oh, Sir Gap Dol! My apologies for not recognizing you. As you can see, my friend here is a bit slow—he must’ve made a mistake.”

“Brother! What are you saying? It’s this man who’s being rude and disrespectful!”

Frustrated by the injustice, Yeon Woo raised her voice angrily.

Gap Dol disliked how Yeon Woo—despite having her collar gripped—showed no trace of fear or submission.

Thick veins bulged on his forehead.

“What? This man?!”

Gap Dol’s face flushed red then pale, his fists trembling—he looked ready to start a brawl at any moment.

Sensing the dangerous shift in the air, Dae Bok frantically fumbled in his pockets.

He quickly pulled out a small pouch filled with coins and quietly pressed it into Gap Dol’s hand.

“The sky is bright and cheerful—surely a fine day like this calls for good spirits.”

Gap Dol tested the weight of the coin pouch in his palm, then cleared his throat awkwardly.

“Hrmph! I’ll let this slide—just this once. There won’t be a next time!”

Only then did Gap Dol release Yeon Woo’s collar, allowing her to finally breathe freely again.

Tucking the coins away, Gap Dol got to the point.

“I came here personally to tell you that there’ll be a ‘Welcome Ceremony’ tonight. Make sure you prepare properly.”

“Oh my! We’re truly grateful you came all this way to inform us yourself.”

Dae Bok, as if completely oblivious, cheerfully flattered Gap Dol.

After a brief moment of awkwardness, Gap Dol snapped his head toward Yeon Woo aggressively.

“Especially you—I’ll be watching closely. If you don’t want your time in this unit to be miserable, bring twice as much as everyone else.”

Gap Dol shot Yeon Woo a warning glare that seemed ready to spit sparks at any moment.

Yeon Woo couldn’t understand the situation at all. What was this unwarranted violence, and what exactly was she supposed to bring?

She desperately wanted to confront this rude man right then and there.

But seeing how Dae Bok was humbly yielding, she realized acting rashly now wouldn’t be wise.

Instead, she silently glared fiercely at the back of Gap Dol’s head as he finished speaking and turned to leave.

Only after the man disappeared from sight did Dae Bok finally exhale in relief—he felt years older than usual.

“Whew… Cleaning up after you nearly broke my back.”

“Why did you do that! Flattering that ruffian like that!”

Yeon Woo vented her pent-up frustration to Dae Bok.

Dae Bok, though clearly weary, spoke seriously—more seriously than usual—without scolding her.

“Little brother, the military runs on a strict hierarchy. That man’s a senior. If you keep acting on impulse like today, you’ll regret it deeply.”

“But how can this be acceptable? It makes no sense!”

“You know what makes the least sense? This whole world, that’s what. Heh heh heh.”

Seeing the dirt on Dae Bok’s clothes, Yeon Woo bit her lip and fell silent.

Guilt washed over her as she watched Dae Bok—humiliated because of her—and she felt deeply uncomfortable.

“…I’m sorry. I let my emotions get the better of me and didn’t think things through. I’ll repay you for the money. How much was it?”

“Forget it, forget it. Between brothers, why talk about money?”

Dae Bok waved his hands and shook his head.

“Anyway, a ‘Welcome Ceremony,’ huh? Even a tiny unit like this follows the tradition. I guess people are people, wherever you go.”

“A ‘Welcome Ceremony’?”

Yeon Woo tilted her head, puzzled by Dae Bok’s muttering.

“Yeah. Usually, new recruits present a small offering to their seniors as a gesture of ‘please look after me well going forward.’ Most bring liquor or meat. I suspected it, but even this small unit observes the custom.”

“I see… I never knew such a custom existed. That man earlier said to prepare it by tonight—did you bring anything, brother?”

“Of course. Just in case, I brought some.”

“This is terrible. I had no idea there’d be a ceremony—I didn’t prepare anything…”

She couldn’t leave the unit freely to buy meat or liquor.

More importantly, she didn’t even have enough money to afford them.

Seeing Yeon Woo’s worried face, Dae Bok spoke apologetically,

“I’d like to share, but I don’t have enough myself… And remember, he told you to bring twice as much.”

“What should I do?”

She’d thought she only needed to do her duties as a soldier, but there were far more things to worry about than she’d imagined.

She considered asking Bi Young for help, as he’d said to speak up if anything difficult came up.

But having boasted confidently that she could handle military life, asking for help now would be like admitting her own incompetence.

As a woman with pride, how could she claim to be a soldier if she couldn’t even manage something this small on her own?

She absolutely didn’t want to borrow help from Bi Young.

As Yeon Woo fretted with a troubled expression, Dae Bok asked,

“Little brother, do you have any money on you?”

“No… I don’t…”

“I heard merchants selling meat and liquor always come to the unit on nights when there’s a Welcome Ceremony. There must be other recruits like you who couldn’t prepare. Here—borrow my money for now. At least save face somehow.”

As if money could magically appear out of thin air,

Dae Bok pulled out yet another coin pouch from his robes and offered it to Yeon Woo.

Yeon Woo recoiled in shock, waving her arms.

“No! I’ve already burdened you once—I can’t possibly trouble you again like this!”

“If you don’t take this, you’ll surely be in for a rough night. And I don’t want to see that happen to you.”

“But I can’t just easily accept your kindness like this…”

“It’s not a gift. Consider it a loan—you owe me now. When I need help someday, you’ll repay me then.”

When Yeon Woo stubbornly refused to take Dae Bok’s money, he shoved the coin pouch forcefully into her hand.

“Don’t misunderstand—it’s not free. I’ll collect interest at double the rate.”

Dae Bok winked one eye playfully, flashing a mischievous grin.

How could someone with not a drop of shared blood be so kind?

Deeply moved, Yeon Woo looked at Dae Bok with glistening eyes.

“Brother…!”

“Ugh! Wipe that pathetic look off your face! If you were a woman, fine—but I don’t want that kind of gaze from another man!”

First, he suggested becoming sworn brothers with a stranger.

Then he made silly jokes about handing over goods and marrying into her family.

She’d thought he was just a weirdo who said odd things—but now she realized he had a genuinely warm heart.

Yeon Woo took this moment to completely revise her first impression of Dae Bok.

Night fell upon Prince Gwang Ho’s unit.

A bluish moon rose above the camp.

Yeon Woo quietly slipped away from the recruits’ encampment to prepare for the Welcome Ceremony.

She hurried toward the North Gate, where she’d heard merchants would be, needing to finish her preparations before the ceremony began.

Though torches were scattered sparingly throughout the camp, the mountainous area beyond human habitation made it hard to distinguish shapes in the darkness.

“How am I supposed to find a merchant in this darkness…?”

Wandering aimlessly in the dark, Yeon Woo prowled near the camp’s outer wall, trying to locate the North Gate.

Then, a presence approached her silently—without so much as a rustle.

Unaware that someone was watching her, Yeon Woo continued diligently circling the wall in search of the gate.

—Swish.

The figure behind her drew a sword.

The bluish blade, reflecting the moonlight, touched the nape of Yeon Woo’s neck.

“!”

The sudden chill of cold steel made Yeon Woo’s body freeze instantly like ice.

A sharp sting at her neck, coupled with palpable killing intent, made her hairs stand on end and goosebumps crawl all over her skin.

The figure behind her spoke in a low, familiar baritone voice.

“Already sneaking around like a rat on your very first day.”

His voice alone carried a chilling threat.

Yeon Woo recognized it immediately.

“Turn around slowly.”

She had no choice but to obey the man’s command—defiance was unthinkable.

As she turned slowly and saw who it was,

“…!”

Her breath nearly stopped.

Facing her was a familiar man, bare-chested and staring directly at her.

Yeon Woo instantly recognized him and screamed silently in her mind.

‘The madman from Mount Baekak!’

It was Geon—the man who had treated her on Mount Baekak.

Standing before Yeon Woo half-naked, Geon revealed a perfectly toned, lean musculature with not an ounce of fat.

His supple skin shimmered silkily under the moonlight, and his Adam’s apple protruded boldly, exuding raw masculinity.

His sharp collarbones and broad shoulders displayed a powerful yet elegant grace—as if painted by a master artist.

But Yeon Woo had no leisure to admire Geon’s picture-perfect physique.

She’d never imagined running into him here—and feared he might recognize her true identity as a woman.

To avoid revealing herself, Yeon Woo deliberately kept her gaze lowered to the ground, avoiding his eyes.

Fortunately, the moonlight shone from behind her, casting her face into shadow.

“Deserting on your very first day—bold move, kid.”

Like the chill of the bluish moonlight, Geon growled lowly in a fierce voice.

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
