“Could you let me stay with you tonight?”
Biyeong doubted his ears at Eun Chae’s unexpected request.
He wondered if he was hallucinating due to alcohol, but he hadn’t drunk enough to be intoxicated.
After calming his coughing, Biyeong responded.
“What did you just say?”
“I have nowhere to sleep…”
Biyeong was baffled by the situation. Why would Eun Chae come to him at this late hour, asking to stay in his barracks, leaving her own?
Confused, he stepped outside to find Eun Chae standing there hesitantly.
“Nowhere to sleep? What does that mean?”
“Well, it’s a long story…”
“Come inside. It’s cold outside.”
Inside the barracks, Biyeong seated Eun Chae at the table and bombarded her with questions.
“What happened? You have nowhere to sleep, what about your barracks?”
Eun Chae explained the recent events – from hearing a scream during training with Gun, encountering the fainted Daebok and Cho Ah, going to pick Wolgyeoncho, to giving up her barracks for Cho Ah.
“I gave my barracks to Miss Cho Ah, but I can’t sleep outside… and I can’t possibly sleep with Daebok either, so I came to you.”
She couldn’t just share a room with Daebok, being too close might reveal her identity. But she had no excuse to refuse his offer to sleep together.
So, Eun Chae pretended to visit the restroom until Daebok fell asleep, then she wandered around, unable to decide what to do.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place, Eun Chae’s only option was to turn to Biyeong.
“Hmm…”
After hearing her story, Biyeong mused deeply.
Considering her character, it was no surprise she would readily offer her barracks to someone in need.
But he couldn’t leave her outside for the night, nor could he allow her to share a cramped space with a man, risking revealing her true gender.
Finally, Biyeong agreed to her request.
“You can stay the night.”
“Phew, thank you! I was so worried.”
“Just be more careful next time. It’s good to help others, but consider your situation too.”
Eun Chae realized she shouldn’t always prioritize others over herself.
Without Biyeong, she couldn’t imagine how she would have spent the night.
“Okay, I’ll be careful.”
“I’ll sleep in the office, you can use my bed.”
As Biyeong directed her to the sleeping area, Eun Chae caught the scent of fragrant Maehwaju.
Her eyes landed on the bottle of alcohol on the table.
“Are you drinking? It smells really nice.”
“It’s Maehwaju, a kind of Cheongju made with plum blossoms.”
“Can you make alcohol from plum blossoms?”
Curious, Eun Chae’s eyes sparkled. She had little experience with alcohol, especially after being scolded for a mishap involving it during a previous march.
Though normally indifferent to alcohol, the enticing scent of Maehwaju captivated her.
“May I try some?”
“No.”
Biyeong flatly refused. Despite Eun Chae being a grown adult, he recalled the last incident when she almost got into trouble after drinking.
“Could you let me stay with you tonight?”
Biyeong doubted his ears at Eun Chae’s sudden request.
He wondered if he was hallucinating from alcohol, but he hadn’t drunk enough to be intoxicated.
Biyeong calmed his cough and asked again.
“What did you just say?”
“I have nowhere to sleep…”
Confused, Biyeong couldn’t comprehend the situation. Why would Eun Chae come to him at this late hour, asking to stay in his barracks, leaving her own?
He stepped outside to find Eun Chae standing hesitantly.
“Nowhere to sleep? What does that mean?”
“Well, it’s a long story…”
“Come inside. It’s cold outside.”
Inside the barracks, Biyeong sat Eun Chae down and asked.
“What’s going on? You have nowhere to sleep, what about your barracks?”
Eun Chae explained recent events – from hearing a scream during training, encountering the fainted Daebok and Cho Ah, going to pick Wolgyeoncho, to giving up her barracks for Cho Ah.
“I gave my barracks to Miss Cho Ah, but I can’t sleep outside… and I can’t possibly sleep with Daebok either, so I came to you.”

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
