Conversely, Eun Chae began to feel chills. If Daebok was right, it meant there was a maiden ghost at Guangho Army.
Eun Chae hoped desperately that he was mistaken.
“Don’t talk nonsense. How can there be a ghost in Guangho Army?”
“It’s true. I saw her clearly. If I had reached out, I could have touched her. How could she be an illusion?”
“Even if she’s a ghost, what will you do about it? Are you planning to find her for a ghostly marriage?”
“That… I haven’t thought about that…”
Stumped by Eun Chae’s question, Daebok sat down and sighed.
What could he do about a ghost? Realizing the impossibility, he sat down, pulling his hair in agony.
“Oh, why must you be a ghost…”
Eun Chae gently placed her hand on Daebok’s shoulder.
Brother, instead of doing this, you should either sleep or practice martial arts. Or maybe read another page of the Spring Pictures book.”
“……I guess it won’t work after all.”
Daebok suddenly stood up.
“I must meet that woman…… no, the maiden ghost!”
He clenched his fist as if making a resolution, then dashed into the bushes without a chance to stop him.
Eun Chae shook her head watching Daebok’s retreating figure.
“Ts, ts…”
“You arrived early.”
“Yikes!”
Startled by the sudden approach of someone in the already eerie atmosphere fueled by Daebok’s ghost stories, Eun Chae jumped.
Realizing it was Ki Joo who had approached her from behind, she sighed in relief.
“How can you approach so silently? Didn’t you scare me?!”
“And you, why are you always so easily startled?”
How could she be startled every time someone approached her?
Ki Joo thought Eun Chae hopping around like a scared rabbit was amusing.
He gestured towards Daebok, who was running away, and asked.
“Where is that man running off to?”
Eun Chae sighed and responded.
“He’s off to meet a ghost…”
“The one he saw last time?”
“Yes.”
“……He’s as odd as you are.”
“What do you mean by that? There’s no other oddity like that…… huh?”
“Let’s start the training.”
Eun Chae was just thinking she had never seen anyone like Daebok, only to be lumped together with him as an oddity by Ki Joo.
It was too late to argue as the training had already begun.
Suppressing her complaint, Eun Chae got ready for the training.
Before starting, they decided to review the martial arts she learned last time.
“The most important thing before handling weapons is to train your body to move freely.”
Ki Joo, always terse and sharp, seemed even more stern during training.
He walked slowly around Eun Chae, hands clasped behind his back, and asked, “What does ‘Shin (身)’ mean?”
“It means understanding my own physical capabilities and those of my opponent.”
Eun Chae replied with a sharp tone, different from her usual voice.
Ki Joo tapped Eun Chae’s leg with his scabbard, prompting her to correct her stance.
“What about ‘Bo (步)’?”
“It’s about maintaining a stable body and moving freely, achieving harmony in the body.”
“Right. Knowing how to balance your body is key to not losing your posture.”
Despite having been taught martial arts only recently, Eun Chae adopted a decent stance.
“What does ‘Su (手)’ mean?”
As he spoke, Ki Joo’s fist flew towards Eun Chae’s face.
Eun Chae quickly extended her hand and blocked Ki Joo’s fist.
She felt a burning pain in her palm from blocking his fist, but she didn’t show it and replied, “To defend against an attack…”
After blocking his attack, Eun Chae threw her other fist towards Ki Joo’s abdomen.
Ki Joo easily caught her fist, holding it in his large hand. Eun Chae, feeling the tension release, continued, “And to counter-attack, exchanging breaths with the opponent.”
Immediately after she finished speaking, Ki Joo grabbed her arm and threw her to the ground.
Eun Chae hit the floor with a thud, letting out a cry of pain.
“It’s unfair! You never taught me that stance, did you?”
Eun Chae, sitting on the ground, protested indignantly.
“In battle, does the enemy teach how they will attack? Stop complaining and get up.”
Ki Joo looked at Eun Chae’s sulking figure, resembling an angry squirrel.
Extending a hand to the grumbling Eun Chae to help her up, Ki Joo thought to himself, ‘Not bad.’
Though Eun Chae had only recently started training with him, she absorbed his teachings like a sponge soaks up water.
Despite lowering the difficulty of his attacks considering her status as a trainee, her reaction speed was quite fast. Her eyes during training were sharper and more spirited than ever, making it rewarding to teach her as she visibly improved day by day.
Ki Joo smiled faintly, appreciating the strong spirit hidden within Eun Chae’s slender frame.
Catching sight of his smile, Eun Chae sprang up and asked, “Did you just smile, sir?”
It was unusual to see the normally stern man display such an expression.
Curiosity sparkling in her eyes, Ki Joo straightened his face and feigned ignorance. “When did I smile?”
“Seems like you did! Were you mocking me?”
“You must have seen it wrong.”
Embarrassed, Ki Joo avoided Eun Chae’s gaze just when a scream erupted from the bushes.
“Aaahhh!”
The piercing scream, unmistakably a woman’s, cut through the air.
Exchanging glances, Eun Chae and Ki Joo hurried towards the source of the sound.
Soon, they found Daebok sitting on the ground. Thankfully, he appeared unhurt, unlike before when he had fainted.
Seeing Eun Chae and Ki Joo, Daebok’s face lit up.
“Sir! Eun Chae!”
“Brother, we heard a scream. What exactly happened…”
As Eun Chae approached Daebok, a woman lying next to him caught her eye.
Her face turned pale.
“Who… who is she? Don’t tell me she’s the maiden ghost Brother mentioned…?”
“Exactly!”
Startled by the mention of a ghost, Eun Chae was visibly shaken.
If it weren’t for Daebok’s explanation that followed, she might have fainted.
“She’s the maiden ghost I was talking about, but not an actual ghost!”
At Daebok’s words, Eun Chae cautiously approached the fallen woman.
Upon closer inspection, the woman, who appeared to be around Eun Chae’s age, had a neat hairstyle, not a disheveled ghostly one. She wore an elegant jade-colored jeogori and dark blue skirt, not the typical white attire of a ghost. The woman’s face showed healthy color and smooth skin, clearly indicating she was a living person.
Eun Chae gently touched the woman’s cheek with her finger, feeling the warmth and softness of her skin.
With a bewildered expression, Eun Chae asked, “Who exactly is this woman?”
Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!
This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?
[Small Theater]
The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
