Reentering the cabin where Adrian was, after meeting Maeve again, Laila took a deep breath, careful not to let her tension show outwardly.

With a creak, the door to Adrian’s room opened, revealing him resting with his eyes closed, leaning back in a chair.

Yet the moment Maeve and Laila stepped inside, as if he could see exactly who had entered without opening his eyes, he spoke up.

“You may leave, Maeve.”

“I shall do so, Your Highness.”

Maeve handed the lamp she’d been carrying to Laila and left, closing the door behind her.

The wind outside was fierce, causing the door to slam shut.

Already feeling slightly queasy from the ship’s rocking motion, Laila pressed a hand to her chest and waited for Adrian’s next words.

But instead of calling her further inside, Adrian rose from his seat and walked toward her himself.

Laila looked up at him in surprise as he suddenly stood right before her, and Adrian placed his hand on her shoulder.

Her clothes had become more soaked than expected during her conversation with Rilvan.

Adrian’s violet eyes glanced down at her sleeve clinging to her arm and the fabric of her already thin dress, now even more translucent from the dampness, and he murmured,

“…You’re soaked.”

“It’s raining outside.”

As she spoke, Laila’s heart fluttered nervously, worried he might have overheard her private talk with Rilvan and be angry.
