A voice still tinged with sleep sounded near the top of Laila’s head.

“Now that I think about it, Laila.”

“Yes….”

She rolled her eyes and caught a glimpse of Adrian, who still had his eyes closed. He spoke in a slightly hoarse voice, not yet fully awake.

“When I sleep holding you, I feel my body stabilizing. Even now, my mind feels exceptionally clear.”

“But you haven’t even opened your eyes yet?”

At Laila’s remark—made because he still looked half-asleep—Adrian let out a soft chuckle, as if she’d just told a hilarious joke. Only then did he finally open his eyes and look at her.

“I don’t mean it that way—I just feel as if my rebound symptoms are improving somewhat.”

“…Are you talking about attunement?”

“Yes.”

Laila gave him a questioning look.

It puzzled her that he would say something like this, given that Adrian knew better than anyone that she was the only one in her attuner family who’d been left behind.

True to form, seeing Laila’s utterly baffled expression, Adrian hesitated, unsure how to explain.

Though he’d experienced indirect recovery through Tristan yesterday, the sensation he felt this morning was different again.

The sharp, needle-like pains that used to stab his body whenever he let his guard down had now subsided, and the nerves that had been hypersensitive because of them now felt soothed.
