Clang!

Was it fortunate that a room was nearby? Or was it, in fact, more unfortunate?

Reynald, having opened the door right before him without a sound, pushed Laila against the wall as soon as he stepped inside.

Seeing their lips drawing close, Laila tried to turn her face away, but he forcefully grabbed her chin and turned it back.

Reynald, his brow furrowed with clear wrinkles, sneered mockingly.

“Why resist? You’re going to be my wife anyway, aren’t you?”

Instead of answering obediently, Laila sharply slapped away the hand gripping her chin and retorted,

“Aren’t you being far too rude, even if you dislike me that much?”

“Who said that? Who told you I dislike you?”

Laila was momentarily speechless at Reynald’s response. Judging by his behavior until now, she had naturally assumed he loathed her to the point of disgust—his attitude showed not even a speck of respect toward her.

But he denied it.

Laila shivered as his hand slid slowly up her back.

Soon, he raised his other hand and pressed his thumb firmly against her lips. Was he preparing to kiss her?

His gentle touch sent a chilling tremor through her.

“It’s true I was annoyed—you’re a princess of a nation falling apart.”

“…….”

“But you’re beautiful, aren’t you?”

At the low whisper reaching her ears, Laila’s pupils trembled uncontrollably.

Reynald narrowed his eyes, which always seemed snake-like.

“That alone makes you valuable enough. You’d look good no matter where I put you.”

With that scornful remark, Reynald lowered his lips toward Laila’s neck. His hand, which had crept up from her back, began tugging at the laces of her dress.

As the laces at the back of her dress started coming loose with soft plops, Laila cried out in alarm.

“Reynald, stop…!”

Stop, please just leave.

But before she could finish the sentence, a strange, inexplicable dizziness suddenly washed over her.

And it seemed Laila wasn’t the only one affected.

“……?”

Reynald, his hands freezing mid-motion, looked around with a puzzled expression. In that moment, Laila pressed her hands tightly over her front, her fingers trembling.

But it wasn’t just her hands shaking. Laila noticed objects around her rattling.

Outside, people seemed to have felt the sudden tremor as well, and the corridor began to grow chaotic.

Amid hurried footsteps running closer, the anxious voices of servants called from outside.

“Your Highness, it seems to be an earthquake! You must evacuate at once!”

“……An earthquake?”

Laila glanced down at the trembling floor beneath her feet, her face flushed with bewilderment.

An earthquake?

The continent of Dambernant wasn’t a region where natural disasters occurred frequently.

Thus, Laila had never experienced an earthquake in her entire life.

Reynald appeared just as unfamiliar with it—he stood frozen until the servants pulled him away, then rushed out into the corridor that seemed ready to collapse at any second.

During all this, no one paid any attention to Laila. Only a minimal number of staff had come here, and their priority was the other princes in the palace.

None of them had come for her.

Laila tried following them into the corridor alone but had to clutch her dress as it began slipping off. On top of that, her high-heeled shoes kept throwing off her balance, making it impossible to take even a single step.

‘What should I do…?’

Worried that cracks might appear in the ceiling, Laila glanced upward fearfully. Oddly, despite the intense shaking, the building seemed sturdy—there were no visible fissures.

Reassured that the structure wouldn’t collapse immediately, Laila knelt to the floor, deciding simply to take off her shoes.

Just as she managed to remove them, her maid—who had been nowhere to be seen until now—finally entered the building, calling out for her.

“Your Highness! Your Highness!”

“Al…!”

The very moment Laila tried to rush barefoot into the corridor to call for her maid,

Her body lurched backward from a powerful gravitational pull from behind.

Startled, she opened her mouth to scream, but a hand quickly covered it. At the same time, something solid pressed against her shoulder, and a calm, low voice—utterly out of place amid the chaos—spoke.

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

“Quiet.”

“……!”

Recognizing the familiar voice, Laila looked up at the person behind her.

“It’s you.”

It was Marquis Millay.

She’d clearly seen him leave earlier—how had he returned to the royal palace so soon? Had Reynald summoned him back in the meantime?

“……Your Highness!”

Before she could piece together her thoughts, her maid’s voice rang out from quite nearby.

Laila flinched, wanting to step outside, but Millay grabbed her arm and pulled her further inward instead.

Quickly scanning the surroundings, Millay spotted the long curtains by the window and swiftly ducked behind them.

Following his lead, the curtain swept across, concealing them both.

The moment deep shadows enveloped them, Laila’s maid entered the room, calling out for her desperately.

But receiving no answer, the maid soon seemed to head elsewhere. Laila fretted for a moment, worried her maid might be walking into danger, but Millay pressed her into the corner, blocking her with his body as if signaling her to stay still.

As if the surrounding commotion were an illusion, the two remained frozen, staring into each other’s eyes for a long while.

Their gazes collided directly, their breaths grew closer, and their bodies pressed so tightly together she could even feel his chest rising and falling.

Laila clutched her dress tighter to create a little space between them. Her voice came out stiff with tension.

“Why… are we hiding?”

“Well… perhaps because I didn’t want anyone else to see the princess in such disarray.”

“…….”

Laila swallowed hard. Millay gazed quietly down at her frozen form, then after a pause reached toward the loose laces on her back.

When Laila flinched, a gentle, soothing voice flowed into her ear.

“It’s alright. I’m just going to tighten the laces for you.”

“Th-thank you.”

As if proving his innocence, Millay carefully avoided touching her body as he retied the laces at her back.

Though not perfectly fixed, once the dress was secured enough to stop slipping from her chest, Laila no longer needed to hold it up desperately.

Next, the Marquis removed his coat and draped it over her shoulders. Glancing down at her bare feet, he gave a faint chuckle.

“You’ve lost your shoes.”

Laila tucked her feet slightly under the hem of her dress. Though she wasn’t naked—only her feet were visible—her face burned with embarrassment.

“I… couldn’t walk properly in them…”

Finding her adorable, perhaps, Millay’s eyes crinkled into a smile.

Laila shyly wiggled her toes and lowered her head.

“Shouldn’t we leave now?”

She was worried about Alice, who was surely still searching frantically for her. But upon hearing Laila’s words, Millay didn’t move away—he stepped even closer and called to her softly.

“Princess of Wessex.”

“Yes?”

“Shall we run away… or shall we kill him?”

Though he named no specific target, Laila understood perfectly what he meant. Her eyes widened in shock.

Yet she couldn’t readily choose either option.

As Laila stood gaping at him, Millay subtly frowned, then lifted her chin.

Gently pressing his thumb against her lips, he parted them just slightly—without causing pain.

As if he’d witnessed every one of Reynald’s transgressions firsthand.

“You nearly met disaster just now—yet you still wish to remain here?”

“…….”

“I can’t protect you. I truly don’t understand why you’d throw your own body away for your country’s sake.”

His tone was cruelly cold, yet his words brimmed with concern.

Why did this man—who barely knew her—care for her so? And why did he seem to already know everything?

“Marquis…”

As Laila opened her mouth to ask him something, Millay cut her off before she could speak.

“That bastard must’ve told you to call me Marquis.”

It sounded like a polite request not to ask further questions, even if she was curious. So Laila suppressed her inquisitiveness and followed the flow of the conversation.

“Might I be mistaken?”

“No, you’re right. I did receive that title about six years ago.”

As expected, Millay must be a newly ennobled aristocrat.

She didn’t know what service he’d rendered to the Harkin Empire, but receiving a marquisate outside wartime clearly marked him as an exceptional individual.

Then Laila realized something.

The tremors shaking the building had finally stopped.

Yet for some reason, Millay’s hand resting on her still trembled uncontrollably—as if shaken by the earthquake’s aftermath.

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
