He Who Covets the Abandoned Bride (10 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 66
Rilvan obediently pulled out the paper from his bosom and showed it to them. To Laila, who stared at it with wide eyes, Adrian continued speaking.
“You should be able to send a letter to Cedric as well.”
“Really… is that true?”
Though Adrian had already created unbelievable realities right before her eyes, Laila still found it hard to believe this time.
She had been told he would look into matters concerning Cedric, but Fitzroy was Harkin’s greatest rival on the Damvernant continent. Naturally, she had assumed such a request would be difficult—so much so that she had resigned herself to hearing nothing back.
Yet now, a letter had arrived from Cedric.
Adrian gently smoothed Laila’s hair as she stood lost in thought, then turned back to Rilvan. Seeing Laila so happy, Adrian’s expression softened in a way never seen before.
Rilvan, inwardly wondering if it was really that good, handed Cedric’s letter to him.
“Cedric is, after all, in the position of a slave, so his hands and feet aren’t free. He said someone else wrote this down for him, since he couldn’t write it himself.”
Hearing this explanation, disappointment and worry mingled on Laila’s face. Adrian, too, hesitated just as he was about to open the letter.
“Then isn’t there a chance the letter could be forged?”
“Do you think I’d entrust something so important to someone unreliable? Besides, though the signature at the end is a bit crooked, it’s definitely Cedric’s.”
Before Isabella departed for Wessex, she thoroughly replaced all the people around her—a move clearly made because she had noticed Adrian kept receiving information.
It wasn’t that she had ever been careless, but this heightened vigilance forced Adrian to invest even more effort.
Adrian stared blankly at Rilvan for a moment, then finally unfolded the letter. As Rilvan had said, neat handwriting filled the page, and though barely legible at the end, the name “Cedric” was indeed written there.
