Instead of the ropes that had bound her body, shackles now clamped her wrists and ankles as she was locked in the cargo hold.

This place, devoid of any light, was far too dark and cold.

Being below deck, the sound of cleaving water was so distinct it seemed the sea would soon flood in—and it frightened her.

Had she been too optimistic, treating the whole situation as a joke?

Blinded by the sudden brightness washing over her face, Laila, who had been slumped over, squinted and looked toward the figure approaching her. The silhouette belonged to a familiar woman.

Recognizing her, Laila softly called out her name.
