They stated that the group was staying in Ottilie, possessed a continental travel permit, had dyed their hair to conceal its color, and consisted of one woman and two men—one from Wessex and two from Harkin.

The news spread so thoroughly throughout Ottilie that hardly anyone remained unaware of it….

Brian, who had given her a rough summary of the story, quickly packed his belongings and spoke urgently.

“It seems the couple downstairs is starting to suspect us.”

In short, there weren’t many places to hide, and with such tight security, tracking them down would be easy.

If they vanished from the attic without a word, the couple downstairs would likely report that suspicious people had stayed in their home.

But they couldn’t simply sit and wait to be captured, so without hesitation, they left the attic.

Brian threw a cloak over Laila and spurred their horse toward another city.
