Laila, who had never once stayed alone in someone else’s mansion, didn’t know what to do and couldn’t bring herself to move until the morning sun shone through.

The increasingly busy footsteps in the hallway and the fragrant scent of bread drifting from somewhere signaled that the mansion’s day had begun, yet she still wasn’t sure whether it would be shameless of her to boldly go out first and ask for breakfast.

Thus, she did everything she could within the room and waited—rearranging the blankets neatly on the bed and clumsily fixing her disheveled hair before the mirror.

While doing so, she noticed evidence that this room’s original occupant was a man. In her rush to tidy up earlier, she hadn’t paid attention to this detail, but now she found a lone cufflink button in the vanity drawer, seemingly missing its pair.

It was a simple design with a violet gemstone embedded in it.

The moment she saw it, Laila flinched.

‘This was Marquis Millay’s room.’

At first, she’d wondered if it might belong to Rilvan, but the furniture was arranged strictly for the purpose of a bedroom, implying the owner used multiple rooms within the mansion.

The only person with such privilege would be the mansion’s master himself.

She’d assumed that “arranging a room” would mean assigning her one of the servants’ quarters, and realizing otherwise made her heart sink.

Upon closer thought, this clearly couldn’t be a servant’s room—no servant would ever share the same floor as the master.

She was ashamed of herself for missing such an obvious fact.

Simultaneously, she grew restless, unsure how to properly express her gratitude for Millay’s thoughtful consideration.

Just as she’d decided she really ought to go find Marquis Millay first and at least thank him in person, a knock sounded at the door—as if on cue.

“May I come in, Your Highness?”
