Laila, who had been gazing absently out the window, quietly turned her head toward Adrian seated to her left. The carriage wasn’t fully enclosed, so the coachman sitting ahead was visible.

Afraid the coachman might overhear if she spoke aloud, Laila signaled with her eyes, asking why he had done that. In response, Adrian simply offered a soft smile.

“Don’t be nervous, my lady.”

The term “my lady” came out so naturally that Laila immediately felt her ears grow warm at the sound of it.

“Oh… This is my first time going to the royal palace, so I suppose my nervousness must have shown without me realizing it.”

At those words, Adrian smiled faintly and gently guided her to open her right palm.

Wondering what he was about, Laila tilted her head and focused on his hand—only to feel Adrian’s fingertips slowly tracing words onto her skin.

She assumed he chose this cumbersome method because speaking aloud might risk the coachman hearing everything.
