“I never agreed to it.”

Rilvan said firmly.

Although Laila knew his visit was ostensibly to escort her, she sensed from the way Rilvan had followed her all the way to her room to justify himself that he was genuinely aggrieved.

Especially considering his usual temperament—he rarely spoke to her unless absolutely necessary.

Just before opening the door, Laila paused, quickly glancing around to ensure no one was nearby. Then, in a low, hushed whisper—so quiet that neither any passerby nor Maeve inside the room could possibly overhear—she spoke.

“But Your Highness had already laid out the entire plan.”

“Who in their right mind would ever agree to such a dangerous scheme?”

For a moment, Laila nearly blurted out, “Well, I did,” but managed to stop herself just in time. Instead, she reassured Rilvan with an obvious, almost unnecessary statement.

“After all, if Sir Rilvan refuses to agree, the plan simply can’t happen.”

It wasn’t wrong—Adrian’s disguise alone was utterly impossible without Rilvan’s help. And since they were dealing with Isabella Fitzroy, there was no way he could get away with a clumsy wig or half-hearted impersonation.

Yet Rilvan’s brow furrowed slightly.

“But you’ll have to be a bit stubborn.”

It was, in essence, no different from admitting that if she insisted, he would eventually give in.

Laila quietly smiled at Rilvan. It was truly fortunate that there was at least one person who stood firmly by Adrian.

“I believe His Highness won’t make a wrong decision.”
