The moment they touched, the surface trembled finely. It was unclear who initiated the vibration.

However, what was certain was that both were deeply engrossed in this moment.

Millei didn’t touch Laila anywhere else, focusing even more on the sweet kiss.

His actions, softly teasing Laila’s plump lips, were cautious yet all the more provocative.

This first exchange of warmth through the lips, known to be the most sensitive part of the human body, ended all too soon.

Millei, who first parted his lips, had a slightly flushed face. It could have been due to the lamp’s light.

He confessed in a soft voice.

“This is my deceitfulness, Princess.”

Laila looked at him quietly with her lips still tightly closed. Even after separating from Millei, his warmth seemed to linger as if branded.

It felt like it would last for hours, even days. She was sure it wouldn’t fade until she met him again tomorrow.

Laila held her breath, overwhelmed, and finally managed to speak.

“I’m curious about your true nature, Millei.”

“I will gladly show you.”

He answered without hesitation, but his expression was somehow subdued.

Was it because of his too-pale face?

Laila looked at him with concern and noticed his trembling hand resting on the table. Millei quickly stood up as he realized Laila had noticed, but it was too late.

Laila asked quickly as he tried to distance himself, slipping his hand into his pocket.

“Are you in pain right now?”

“It’s nothing the Princess should worry about.”

“But your complexion at the ceremony seemed really poor. Has your condition worsened?”

Millei appeared surprised by Laila’s persistent questioning.

“You’ve been observing me quite closely.”

“…”

Embarrassed by Millei’s remark, Laila’s ears flushed red. Millei, noticing her reaction, had a smile in his eyes and at the corners of his mouth.

“May I take that to mean the Princess has taken an interest in me?”

His question was quite direct. It wasn’t as significant as her question about liking him, but it was enough to stir Laila’s emotions. Her eyes filled with unrest as Millei waited patiently for her answer.

Laila clasped her hands tightly on her lap, choosing her words. Millei may have asked lightly, but at this point, it seemed Laila too needed to be honest.

“It’s just that, when I’m with you, Sir Millei, I keep thinking of someone else… I’m sorry.”

It wasn’t the right thing to say after just sharing a kiss, but Laila herself was perplexed by her conflicting feelings.

As expected, Millei’s smile faded upon hearing her response.

“Who is it?”

“Someone I liked.”

Laila couldn’t bring herself to meet his gaze, so she looked down. Thus, she didn’t see his expression harden.

“We’ve parted now.”

Millei stared at her, unable to blink, stunned.

“You mean to say you haven’t forgotten him yet?”

Laila nodded, and Millei exhaled slowly, struggling to regain his composure. It was fortunate that she was avoiding his gaze.

Otherwise, he would have revealed his unsettled expression.

“It’s alright. That won’t stop me from helping you.”
Though he said that, shaking off the shock wasn’t easy. Strangely, Millei, who appeared after ten years, hadn’t considered the possibility that Laila might have loved someone else.

‘Am I a fool?’

Even Laila, who almost had an fiancé. If he had been just a little later, he might have had to watch Laila marry someone else and have children.

It was ridiculous to be shocked now for only just realizing the obvious.

Millei managed to compose himself and finally turned to walk towards the drawing room door.

“Since you came here for dinner, it would be best to eat. I’ve already informed the dining room, so it should be ready by now.”

After finishing his words, he opened the drawing room door, letting in a slight commotion that had been blocked out.

Then Millei turned back to Laila and extended his hand. Laila, surprised by Millei’s unchanged demeanor, cautiously asked before taking his hand.

“Is it alright for me to owe you this much?”

“Of course.”

Millei replied without a hint of hesitation, patiently waiting for Laila to take his hand.

Finally, Laila, though feeling quite embarrassed, took his hand and headed to the dining room.

It was probably Millei’s thoughtfulness, but Laila’s maid was also waiting inside. Perhaps to make it less awkward, Millei’s lieutenant Lilburn and maid Mev were also there to dine together.

The dinner was more ordinary than expected, with wine, stew, bread, meat, and other dishes.

However, Millei had mixed in foods that Laila liked from his memory, and fortunately, she seemed to enjoy them, showing various expressions as she ate.

While pretending to eat silently, Millei watched every bite Laila took, gradually relaxing his expression.

She was just too beautiful.

What did it matter who she met during his absence? The fact that he could sit in front of Laila and watch over her was enough for Millei to feel an immense sense of happiness.

The deeper he felt this, the more his heart ached, but it didn’t matter.

After she left in the carriage from the temporary residence, he went up to his room on the second floor and fell onto his bed as if collapsing.

Was it because Laila had stayed here last night?

The bed faintly retained a different scent than usual.

Adrian, feeling it, fell asleep almost instantly.

The next dawn, as ordered by Adrian, a ship to take Laila to Wessex was prepared. Before dawn had even broken, Lilburn, having confirmed this, knocked on Adrian’s door to report.

But despite repeated knocking, there was no response from the usually light-sleeping Adrian. Growing increasingly anxious, Lilburn couldn’t wait any longer and opened the door on his fifth attempt.

Thankfully, Adrian was inside. Lilburn quickly approached the bed and shook the seemingly lifeless Adrian awake.

“Your Highness, Your Highness?”

No matter how many times he called and shook him, Adrian did not wake up. In a panic, Lilburn hurriedly checked Adrian’s breathing.

Thankfully, he was still breathing. But with trembling hands, Lilburn shook him again.

“Your Highness, please wake up.”

Still no response. Just when Lilburn was frozen in uncertainty, a knock came from behind him. Before he could answer, the person outside identified themselves.

“Lieutenant Lilburn, it’s me, Mev.”

Hearing her calm voice, Lilburn somewhat relieved, staggered up to open the door. Seeing Mev’s bittersweet smile, Lilburn realized she already knew about Adrian’s condition.
As expected, Mev didn’t need an explanation of the situation to know what she had to say.

“I will stay here and guard him.”

“Mev…”

Lilburn sent her a questioning look, wondering if she would be alright, but Mev nonchalantly continued.

“Lieutenant Lilburn, you must safely escort the princess to Wessex. If you stay here, His Highness will reprimand you for disobeying his orders when he wakes up.”

Lilburn hesitated but eventually nodded, agreeing with Mev’s judgment.

“Please take care of it.”

Leaving just those words, Lilburn exited. Mev watched his trustworthy figure disappear before entering the room and locking the door.

Mev sat on the edge of the bed, looking down at Adrian, who still hadn’t awakened, and gently arranged his disheveled hair.

“You’ve become a liar again, Your Highness.”

Mev felt a pang of sorrow, knowing how much Adrian had longed for Laila. The situation of Adrian lying collapsed was serious, but it was heartbreaking for Mev, who knew his feelings.

Mev’s hand, holding the hand of the man she regarded like a son, trembled with fear.

Male lead is a clingy little husband

One-line summary: The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

One day, she encounters the young prince Su Qingwan secretly skipping class from the male academy.

As a result, Su Qingwan is punished.

From then on, Su Qingwan sees Lu Yuner as a “thorn in his side”.

But before long, this “thorn” becomes the person he cherishes most, and he goes to great lengths to win Lu Yuner’s affection.

Mini scene 1:

One day, the sun is high in the sky but Su Qingwan still hasn’t gotten up for class.

Servant Xiaoyuan: “Young prince, it’s time for class. You’ll be late otherwise.”

Su Qingwan says arrogantly: “I’m not going. I am the esteemed prince, my status is so noble, why should I suffer this hardship? Besides, isn’t learning all this just to please women? Hmph, they’re not worthy!”

Mini scene 2:

After Su Qingwan falls for someone, he completely changes. He no longer skips class and diligently learns how to be a good husband and father. But he discovers that Sister Yuner is always surrounded by admirers.

Drunk and overcome with jealousy one day, he clings to Lu Yuner, crying beautifully like a pear blossom in the rain.

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan likes Sister Yuner.”

Lu Yuner: “Young prince, you’re drunk.”

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan isn’t drunk. Qingwan likes Sister Yuner, likes you so much, likes you to bits…” Before he can finish, Lu Yuner’s eyes flash with emotion and she leans in closer.

[Reading Guide]

1. The female lead is gentle, gracious, humble and polite but not weak. The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

2. 1v1, a bit torturous in the beginning but definitely sweet later on.
