Every object in the room that represented the Emperor’s extravagant personality was shattered and overturned.

“Heh, heh.”

Only after ruining the room did Gerard cease his rampage.

In the middle of the room, now too cluttered to even step foot in, Leone’s man sat, his cheek scratched and bleeding, still awaiting the Emperor’s command to stand.

“Where is Leone right now?”

“I do not know that, sir.”

Flustered, Gerard violently yanked his robe and sat down on the bed.

The fact that he was still panting indicated just how laxly the Emperor of the Empire had lived up to this point.

He picked up the note once more to confirm it.
Still catching his breath, the Emperor of the Empire was a testament to how indolently he had lived up to this point.

He checked the note once more.

Reading the brief sentence over and over, he nervously chewed his nails and shook his leg.

If Lione had been by his side, he surely would have pestered him about what to do next.

Now, Gerard had to decide everything on his own, based on a single urgent letter sent by Lione.

“Summon the royal guards.”

The man lifted his head.

“Yes, Your Imperial Majesty.”

“So, this bastard Lakrahan thinks he can deceive the royal family by planning to marry Kelita? He thinks I’ll just let him?”

The man cautiously retreated from the room.

Once he had closed the double doors, he spoke curtly to the royal guard.

“Call the captain of the royal guards.”

“Yes, I’ll bring him right away.”

Watching the retreating royal guard, the man wiped his bruised cheek with the back of his hand.

“Damn Emperor.”

Muttering in a voice no one could hear, he trudged down the dark hallway.

Bercheria placed her hands together on her thighs and looked at the two men sitting before her.

“May I ask a question first?”

Bercheria didn’t wait for their reply, as if she had already made up her mind.

“Prince Loren.”

“Yes, Bercheria.”

“I want to hear more about what you were saying earlier. How did you know I was trapped in the tower? Do you know my mother?”
“It would be more accurate to say I tried, rather than I knew. I wanted to know what kind of person you are.”

In the midst of it all, Loren lifted the steaming cup of black tea before him.

After savoring a sip of the aromatic tea, he opened his mouth again.

“It was about two years after the war. Inside Deriansis, voices started growing louder, saying that we needed to verify whether the real guardian of Bercheria had disappeared.”

With a bitter smile, Loren glanced at the sturdy shoulders of Lakrahan.

“People couldn’t believe that a mere human had overcome the protection of a god.”

Normally, unless you live on the sacred ground of the guardian, you wouldn’t be able to sense its energy, so there was no way to confirm it.

Just like the citizens of Feriat couldn’t sense the protection of Velrophia even if they crossed the ocean to feel it.

God’s protection didn’t touch those who didn’t have the land’s blood flowing in them.

Since participating in the war was impossible due to Loren being the sole crown prince, he instead joined a research team.

“It took scholars five years to get permission from the Emperor of Feriat to enter the country. I came here for the first time during that period.”

“You came to unexplored Feriat and immediately knew of Bercheria’s existence? Something that no one in Feriat knew?”

Lakrahan couldn’t believe Loren’s words.

He had been by her side all this time and hadn’t noticed her presence.

Even though he had passed near Bercheria’s tower, where the hunting grounds are, periodically with his knights.

“Well…”
Loren glanced at the owl dozing off on his shoulder and shook his head.

“Unfortunately, I can’t disclose the reason for that, Your Grace.”

Loren turned his head towards Bercheria and flashed her a charming smile.

“Anyway, after learning you were there, my only concern was figuring out how to get you out.”

“Continuously, is that what you’re saying?”

“Yes. Continuously.”

“…”

“Bercheria.”

As Loren reached for her hand on the table, Lakrahan next to him smacked his hand away.

Lakrahan pulled one corner of his lip into a smile and said to the glaring Loren.

“In Feriat, physical contact between unmarried people is illegal.”

“Illegal?”

Lakrahan responded with a brazen voice.

“You are a crown prince; you should know what the law is.”

Unable to know Feriat’s laws, Loren withdrew his hand with a dissatisfied expression.

“I have been watching your mother for a very long time.”

“It would have only been during your visits to Feriat. How many times? Three? Or maybe twice?”

Loren frowned at Lakrahan, who kept interrupting him, and then answered with a smile.

“Four times, Your Grace.”

“One way or another.”

Seeing the glaring Loren, Lakrahan subtly raised his hand as if encouraging him to continue speaking.

Loren then began speaking to Bercheria again.
“The important thing is that your mother is not as easygoing as you may think. It would be better to avoid confrontation. So come with me to Deransis, Bercheria.”

“I can’t go.”

When the reply came from Lakrahan again, Loren could no longer contain himself.

“Your Grace, the choice is for Bercheria to make. The answer is her responsibility as well.”

“There’s something I want to ask.”

Bercheria’s voice was not loud, but it was enough to command the attention of both men.

Her expression, which had been deeply engrossed in thought until just now, had changed as if she had made up her mind.

“Ask anything, Bercheria.”

Loren looked at her as if ready to answer all her questions.

“What was the reason for doing so?”

“Which reason are you referring to, Bercheria?”

“The reason you found me and tried to help me escape.”

“That is…”

Bercheria was staring intently at Loren with a stoic expression.

“Is your goal to take me to Deransis? Or, like my mother, do you also need my power?”

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
