Left alone in the room, she looked at the spot where Lakrahan had been sitting and lifted her leg to check the mark engraved there once again.

“Sigh.”

She had managed to get her anger under control, but another unexpected event had occurred.

“Why does it always have to be with him?”

Bercheria sighed and sat on the edge of the bed where Lakrahan had just been.

“He’s going to marry another woman. Making each other uncomfortable.”

The browneyed woman she had seen a little earlier was still on her mind.

Bercheria lifted her dress and wiped off the mark that was engraved on her leg.

“Do you intend to give me a chance once I’ve recovered all my strength?”

Bercheria looked at the bright landscape outside the window.

She knew that her life force would decrease whenever she exerted herself, but if she saw someone in trouble before her eyes, Bercheria would still not hesitate.

Perhaps it was because she didn’t know how much time she had left, she was unafraid.

She might feel as if it weren’t reality because she could not predict when it would run wild.

“It could be my last day tomorrow.”

The important thing was to quickly turn the curse, which was not listening to its master like a frog, back into its original form.

“Who’s this?”

Lakrahan placed the letter that Timothy had delivered on the desk in his study.

“It’s the crown prince of the Deransis Empire.”

“Why is the crown prince of Deransis requesting a visit to the North?”

“I asked around the royal people who followed Princess Kelita, and it seems he has a close relationship with Emperor Gerard.”

“Ah.”

Lakrahan pushed the letter away as if it were obvious.

“It makes sense.”

Timothy put it away in a box where he collected Lakrahan’s letters.

“He says he’s curious about the hero who led the war to victory, but in the end, coming to see the duke is also a means to look good to Emperor Gerard.”

“He must be preparing for when he becomes the emperor himself. The conquered empire is above my head, so he must do something to make amends, right?”

“It’s obvious.”

“What should we do? Shall we grant access?”

“Just treat him roughly and send him away.”

“Yes, Your Grace.”

Timothy was about to go out but turned back to Lakrahan.

“What about lunch?”

“Ah. Prepare three portions.”

“Three portions?”

“Yes.”

Lakrahan, who was looking at the documents spread on the desk, looked up at Timothy.

“Why?”

“Because of that blonde woman… What’s her name, by the way?”

“Why the name?”

“I can’t always call her ‘the blonde woman,’ can I? And she doesn’t seem to be leaving soon.”

Lakrahan felt a sudden urge to confide in Timothy.

If there was one person in the castle that he had to trust, it would be Timothy.
Furthermore, he was experienced, so he might know some other way for this current situation.

“Why are you staring like that?”

“No… So what.”

“It doesn’t seem proper to dine with that blonde woman. Let’s postpone that, Duke.”

Lakrahan leaned deeply into his chair.

Strength unconsciously flowed into one arm.

Last night, Bercheria had used her strength several times.

How she was now, how much she could endure without disgust, no one knew.

Even whether or not she could use half of her strength was an unknown territory.

The safest thing was for her and Lakrahan to be together.

‘Just stay by my side. Until I regain all the abilities I lost.’

He didn’t know then.

Whether that meant to save her.

Lakrahan spoke in a low voice, looking at Timothy.

“It doesn’t matter, so call that woman too. Politely.”

Timothy bowed with a short sigh.

“Yes, Duke.”

Lunch was splendidly prepared for the princess who had visited the North.

The abundant table, freed from drought, was enriched by Mrs. Morgan’s touch, appetizing.

“Thank you, Your Grace.”

Kelita wore an absolutely perfect smile.

“You’re welcome.”

Lakrahan looked at the empty seat across from Kelita and continued.

“You deserve the appropriate treatment, Princess.”

Kelita continued her elegant meal, fitting for the royal princess.

When Mrs. Morgan came out to check if there was any shortage of food, Lakrahan spoke in a soft voice.

“The deer meat is especially good today.”

“That’s good. Ho ho ho. Thank you, Duke.”

Lakrahan paused to think, then called Mrs. Morgan over.

“Will you take this food to the guest room just as it is?”

Mrs. Morgan momentarily showed a surprised expression but soon smiled kindly.

“Yes, Your Grace.”

As Mrs. Morgan went into the kitchen, and Kelita put down her fork and knife, Lakrahan also wiped his mouth with a napkin.

“Duke Lakrahan.”

Kelita pressed her reddened face with the back of her hand, then firmly met his eyes.

“The Emperor insists.”

A thin line of worry appeared on Lakrahan’s forehead.

As if he couldn’t see his face, Kelita continued, smiling.

“He insists you set a wedding date this time.”

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
