Todd glanced at Zen’s hand crumpling the documents and said, gazing out the window,

“We seem to have arrived.”

Zen had been staring out the window the whole time, but what he’d been watching wasn’t the scenery—it was her face.

Only upon hearing Todd’s voice did Zen slowly turn his eyes toward the shifting world outside and gather his thoughts.

I want to know why you disappeared. I want to know what kind of life you lived before you met me. And beyond that, I wish to witness every single moment of the days you’ll live from now on. And…

‘I hope you never vanish from my sight again.’

The past ten years had driven Zen half-mad. Had Deborah never appeared, he might have gone completely insane—she was the only warmth that had ever entered his life.

So it was only natural that Zen wanted to hold onto her, to keep her bound by his side. But to truly keep her…

‘The present matters most.’

The car, having reached its destination, came to a slow stop. The driver hurried out and opened the rear door. Zen stepped out gracefully. Though his large frame, stiff and uncomfortable from being confined, had regained its freedom, his mind remained far from calm.

No matter how dark it was, it was still early evening. Yet the street—normally bustling with people at this hour—was completely deserted, not even a rat in sight.

Zen lifted his head and gazed at the only building glowing on the street. Inside that building, the master of this district awaited him.

“Thank you for your visit, Mr. Baker,”

the old butler waiting at the entrance bowed deeply.

“Hah. Anyone seeing this might think I’m some terribly important guest—being received in person like this.”

Despite Zen’s sarcasm, the old butler didn’t so much as blink, guiding him toward his master’s room with elegant movements.

Instead of a greeting, Zen said to the estate’s master, who sat cozily on the sofa gazing intently at the fireplace,

“Are you playing games with me, Marchioness of Forea? Or should I address you as Lady Saint?”

At his sharp tone, she softened her already gentle eyes with a kind smile.

“Hehe. It feels odd hearing you call me Lady Saint. But games? What sort of game have I played?”

“You suddenly appeared without a word.”

“Hehe. Is that really such a terrible thing to deserve that harsh scolding?”

The woman known as Lady Saint, also called Marchioness of Forea and named Deborah, was around the same age as Duke of Verrain.

Like most wealthy people her age, the Marchioness exuded grace and composure—but Zen saw her differently.

Her slender frame, kind face, and cheerful way of speaking that didn’t quite suit her status or age—all of it was merely a mask hiding her true nature.

If pressed, he’d call her a venomous snake—one with deadly poison, always ready to strike at a person’s ankle.

“What did you think of the girl I sent? A fine girl, isn’t she? She didn’t even stammer despite your rudeness.”

“Isn’t she rather overqualified to be hired merely as a lady’s maid?”

“Hehe. True. That girl is far too precious to be tied down to such a trivial role.”

Lady Saint watched Zen’s furrowed brows with evident delight.

“Come now, you knew right away, didn’t you? Did you really think I sent her just for that sort of task? Of course, she has excellent taste, a sharp mind, and will quickly absorb and retain all the information needed in high society—she’ll perform superbly as a lady’s maid as well.”

Zen frowned slightly and gave a crooked smile.

“Yes. In fact, I found her so outstanding that I’ve already decided to hire her—not as a lady’s maid, but with a higher position in mind.”

“Oh my, really?”

Lady Saint blinked her wide-open eyes rapidly. Zen frowned.

“What’s that reaction? After pressuring me to hire her just now?”

“My dear, how is that pressure? It’s more like proud promotion.”

Having said that, Lady Saint fell into quiet thought. As Zen had guessed, she truly wanted Deborah to work for the Baker household. Yet Zen had always refused to accept anyone sent by Lady Saint.

‘So when I heard they needed a lady’s maid, I immediately sent her.’

She’d expected Zen, given his character, wouldn’t choose a widow—especially a commoner from the countryside. After all, his standards had always been high.

‘That’s why I came myself to persuade him—and yet he’s already made up his mind. Indeed, Deborah is an extraordinary girl.’

Throughout her life, Lady Saint had met countless people—many of them brilliant: the inventor of the train, the creator of textile machines, ship designers, physicians, and more.

But truly wise people were rare, and Deborah was one of the few wise ones she’d ever encountered. And her personality was delightful—kind, cheerful, and full of initiative.

‘In every way, she’s wonderfully sociable.’

How could anyone not adore such a girl?

‘Even if she hadn’t saved my life, I’d still love her.’

That was why Lady Saint felt guilty about thrusting Deborah into this messy affair.

‘But I need Deborah’s help. And this will benefit Lady Dia Blaise as well.’

The girl destined to marry Zen was nothing more than a country bumpkin—poorly educated, with no social connections. All she possessed was her beauty and the title of Countess Blaise.

‘Not that she’s inferior to Zen, of course. Currently, the only person capable of granting a title to a bourgeois who isn’t even noble is none other than Lady Dia Blaise.’

Dia’s future, having appeared as if by fate, would be beautifully embroidered with endless hardships. But Zen here wasn’t the sort to pity such a noble lady. He’d likely just grumble that since he’d paid, she ought to handle it herself.

‘That would be troublesome.’

Just as a road free of stones allows one to reach the destination faster, so too must matters proceed with minimal complications. Thus, someone gentle enough to soothe Dia was absolutely necessary.

‘If that brat Zen were even remotely kind-hearted, I wouldn’t need to go this far…’

At that moment, Lady Saint’s thoughts—and her smile—came to an abrupt halt. Zen could never become a kind person. She had made him this way herself. That fact must never be forgotten.

“In any case…”

Lady Saint murmured, her eyes fixed on the fireplace flames.

“Deborah will be of great help to your bride. And you’ll have one less thing to worry about—surely that’s good for you too.”

At the word ‘bride,’ Zen’s face hardened.

Unaware of his stiffened expression, Lady Saint asked warmly,

“By the way, preparations to welcome the young lady seem nearly complete. When do you plan to bring Lady Dia Blaise to the capital?”

Zen had swiftly arranged everything before Dia’s arrival: maids including a lady’s maid, tutors to instruct her, everyday dresses and jewelry, and even the wedding gown for the special day.

Not out of a desire to ease her burden—but simply because he didn’t want to waste time on wedding preparations.

If he was already saving time during preparations, why should the wedding itself be any different? Zen intended to finish everything quickly and bring Dia over immediately—even the tedious ceremony would be dispatched in one go.

But…

Seeing Zen remain silent with a rigid expression, Lady Saint tilted her head slightly and asked gently,

“What’s wrong? Has something happened?”

Zen pulled a cigar case from his pocket, took out a cigar, and placed it between his lips. Then, taking it back into his hand, he muttered quietly,

“…Damn it.”

Noticing Zen’s twitching lips and unsettled gaze, Lady Saint thought, ‘Huh?’

“…Actually, there’s something I need to tell you about that matter.”

When Zen spoke after a brief hesitation, Lady Saint’s lips curled into a cold smile.

Her intuition told her clearly—something had gone wrong.

Deborah was certain she’d toss and turn all night. How could she possibly sleep, trapped against her will in the home of an obsessive male lead!

Yet, amusingly enough, she fell asleep the moment she slipped under the covers. The fatigue had been building steadily within her ever since she’d accepted Lady Saint’s suggestion.

“Young Lady, are you awake?”

The voice from yesterday sounded outside the door—soft and delicate, like the chirping of a bird heralding morning.

“…Good heavens.”

Like someone who’d fallen into a deep slumber on a train and missed their stop, Deborah sprang up in alarm.

“Yes, I’m awake.”

“May I come in, if it’s not too much trouble?”

“Of course, please do.”

The maid entered the room after receiving Deborah’s permission.

“Good morning. I’ve brought your wash water.”

To be greeted with a maid delivering wash water the moment she woke—it was such excessive hospitality that Deborah could only offer an awkward smile.

“Thank you.”

“It’s only my duty.”

The maid gave a cheerful smile. Though Deborah freshened up comfortably with her help, a sense of unease lingered. Drying her face with the towel, she said,

“Thanks to you, I’ve started the day feeling refreshed.”

Smiling gently at Deborah’s words, the maid asked,

“I’m glad to hear that. Oh, and Young Lady—how would you like your breakfast prepared?”

“Anything is fine.”

Deborah gave a shy smile and continued,

“But I think there’s been a misunderstanding. I’m not someone who should be called ‘Young Lady.’ I should’ve corrected you yesterday, but I was too flustered. I’m sorry for not saying so sooner.”

The maid stared at Deborah in surprise, her hands clasped before her, as Deborah genuinely expressed her apology.

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
