Deborah thought she had done her part by excluding Anna Franklin from the interview list. And ultimately, it was Jen who had to choose the governess. But then,

“You want me to conduct the interviews?”

Deborah asked with a forced smile in the office. Jen, packing his briefcase, said,

“I was going to, but unfortunately, something came up.”

“Then perhaps we can postpone the interviews…”

“There’s no time for that.”

Deborah didn’t hide her discomfort,

“I’m sorry, but I can’t do it.”

“What’s impossible about it? You chose the interview list yourself.”

“That was already quite an overstep.”

Seemingly surprised by her response, Jen sharply raised his eyebrows and smirked,

“Once you’ve done something once, can’t you do it again?”

Deborah seriously replied,

“Interviewing is a different matter.”

The future governess, learning that a mere maid had selected them,

‘That will surely cause problems.’

Deborah took a discreet breath and continued,

“Governesses are a different kind of employee. They are people of respect. Knowing that a mere maid chose them—”

“Their pride will be hurt?”

Jen mocked.

“Just conduct the interviews for me. I will handle the hiring.”

“But my mere presence there will cause misunderstandings.”

“Misunderstandings? Shouldn’t the governesses be grateful to you? Thanks to you, they bypassed Anna Franklin.”

“But still.”

“Looking at you…”

Jen and Deborah’s words overlapped. Deborah probably spoke slightly faster, but Jen was the one who continued,

“You seem to worry a lot. Or is it fear?”

Deborah’s response was cut off by Jen’s interjection, highlighting his dominant presence in the conversation.
Deborah stood there, lost in thought. Worry? Fear? Was she really such a person? Probably not. She considered herself quite ordinary.

“I think it’s okay to let go of some of that ‘what will happen next’ worry,” Jen suggested.

Deborah involuntarily twitched her fingers.

Indeed, she had been constantly worrying about the future, probably every moment except when asleep.

‘It’s like he read my mind.’

But surely, he hadn’t actually read her thoughts. Despite the intensity of Jen’s gaze, which almost seemed otherworldly, she assumed he was just frustrated with her reluctance to act as he wished.

Jen frowned at Deborah’s silence. He wanted her to nod, or at least offer a firm response.

‘She must be pondering how to respond to get out of this situation.’

Just then, someone knocked on Jen’s office door. Deborah had no idea who it might be, but Jen immediately sensed who was outside.

‘No choice then.’

With reluctance, Jen called out to the man outside.

“Come in, Sedric.”

Sedric hesitated for a moment upon entering and seeing Jen’s displeased expression and Deborah standing as if petrified.

But soon, he entered with his usual smile and said to Jen,

“Mr. Glass is waiting.”

“I thought as much.”

Jen replied with a sigh, looking at Sedric with displeasure.

“You must be free.”

“What? Certainly not.”

“Even if you’re busy, help her out. It seems she’s too scared to do it alone.”

Jen tossed a leather document folder at Sedric, who caught it effortlessly. Sedric glanced at the list of governess interviewees inside and smiled.

“This should make it less worrying.”

Jen said, raising an eyebrow at Deborah. She couldn’t bring herself to object, not wanting to be rude to Sedric.

“Then I shall leave for the interviews. I hope they go well for you.”

With a sardonic smile, Jen quickly left the office.
