The sound of grass being cut came first, followed by the footsteps of several pairs—among them, one dragging step accompanied by ragged breathing.

Finally, Dion, his exhaustion unmistakable on his face, grabbed Ian, who was walking ahead.

“I’ll warn you one last time—if you keep going like this, you’ll lose a loyal servant as of today.”

“Take out the word ‘loyal,’ and that’s perfectly accurate.”

Without even glancing back, Ian kept walking, slicing through shrubs with his sword. Dion, glaring at that utterly indifferent back, issued a second threat.

“My body is on the verge of breaking down from excessive external stimulation. I’ll do my absolute best, but to maintain physiological homeostasis, I might end up drawing a map right on Your Majesty’s back.”

“Then just go bareback—it’s not that hard.”

Even Dion’s veiled threat to vomit on him didn’t make Ian stop walking. Dion groaned and staggered, prompting Eden, unable to stand it any longer, to step forward and support him.

But the rough breathing right next to his ear annoyed Eden, so he pulled his head away.

His long hair slipped off Eden’s shoulder and tickled Dion’s neck. The two, now mutually irritated, quickly separated again.

Dion decided once more that the world was meant to be lived alone and glanced around for a sturdy branch—anything to prop up his crumbling body like a fragile biscuit. At that exact moment, a faint vibration pulsed from his chest.

“Hik!”

Out of nowhere, Dion leaped up with surprising strength. He hurled the communicator away and swiftly ducked behind a tree.

Ian, who had unwittingly caught the device, saw a small screen pop up on his fingertips—reception granted.
