Helena started running frantically across the lengthy corridor.

Her heart felt like it would burst out of her chest. The pressure of fear whitened her vision.

She was running away from Eugene Evergail.

“Panting heavily,”

The sound of her heels on the marble was lively amidst her escape. It was a path she always took with narrow strides to keep her attire intact. The distance, which always seemed far, now felt short.

Her wide skirt fluttered around, and the passing servants stared in shock, but she didn’t stop.

There was no room to care about such things with the air heavy in her lungs.

Under the name of Evergail, she had lived subdued for over a decade.

How futile those times led by hollow hopes had been.

Only now did Helena feel a trace of liberation.

She put aside the strange twist she had felt earlier.

She threw off her high heels, running up the stairs barefoot as if returning to her childhood.

Reaching her room, she hastily shed the cumbersome dress. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets – she threw them all onto the bed.

Instead, she donned a plain empire dress she wore when she first arrived here. It was modest compared to Eugene’s gifts, but she preferred her current look.

‘Leaving things behind, one by one.’

After straightening her outfit, she stood in front of the mirror. Her intricately braided hair, always kept neat for Eugene, was visible.

Therefore, Helena always woke up an hour early. It was necessary to maintain her naturally wavy hair straight.

She spent her time on her hair without complaint, thinking only of him.

But now, Helena ruthlessly pulled out her hairpins. The hair that was tightly held fell loose.

Facing the mirror again, her red waves cascaded down to her waist.

“Sighing deeply,”

She inhaled deeply and exhaled.

The woman in the mirror didn’t smile, but she looked alive.

“Your Grace. Madam just left. Shall I send a knight after her?”

“……No. Leave her be.”

Eugene shook his head at the concerned inquiry of his butler, Gordon. His chin hardened as he gazed out the window.

At the end of his gaze, his wife was striding away effortlessly. Her usually neatly coiffed hair was now wildly undone.

She left the mansion without looking back.

Eugene only watched her leave. He didn’t try to stop her.

Clinging to a momentary whim was foolish. Lately, she had been prone to sudden emotional fluctuations.

‘She left with nothing. No maid, no carriage.’

Her family had long been ruined and clung to him since their marriage. Though she tried to act sane, how long would that last?

The woman who had come to his home with only her pretty face. Without money, spare clothes, or a place to go, she wouldn’t last long outside. A few hours at best would be commendable.

“She’ll come back on her own.”

Eugene decided that when she returned, he would welcome her as if nothing happened.

To engrave deep into her bones that the only place where she could find comfort was here.
Though mild, Helena was intelligent enough to understand the intention behind her actions. Realizing this wasn’t so bad.

If she wilted a bit today, she wouldn’t dare to utter such a decision again.

‘Let’s see how you play over my head, Helena. I’ll let you harbor that illusion.’

However, contrary to Eugene’s hopes, her actions weren’t impulsive.

Having left the Evergail residence, Helena briskly walked towards the city. This day had been planned for months.

It was only her lingering attachment that had dragged her along; she might have been waiting for such a day for perhaps over a decade.

Each time the executioner’s blade struck her neck, she woke up to a night three years into her marriage with him.

Two years later, he would fall for Natasha, a woman who fled from a fallen kingdom, and take her as his mistress.

Another two years would pass, and Natasha would die in a villa fire, a carriage accident, or from an unknown illness.

No matter how fiercely she struggled in each regression, Natasha always died, and Helena was always the criminal.

It was a shamefully foolish love, but Helena had done it three times.

Out of immense love for him, hoping that becoming a more perfect duchess would change him, and tired of her own helplessness.

He was a terribly consistent man.

For repeatedly bringing me back to kind you, for giving me such vain hopes, and never once believing in my innocence during decades of regression.

Every circumstance was killing her.

Every love killed her.

Even now, waking up in the fifth year.

‘Eugene was invariably meeting Natasha.’

She already knew about his frequent visits to the secluded woods under the pretext of hunting.

In a villa reserved for his beloved, he would be whispering sweet nothings, the same words he once said to her.

Soon he would rationalize taking her as a mistress out of superficial necessity, claiming there were no other feelings involved.

‘I have to leave before she becomes his mistress.’

She no longer wanted to fight with Natasha. What value could it bring to her life?

When scheming men desperately battle for her favor in the male harem

This one’s also on my reread list! The rivalry, scheming between the men in the imperial harem are just as intense and thrilling as in classic palace drama novels, where concubines fight to the death. Give it a read, girls! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Synopsis:

“I am not worthy of her… but I still want to be by her side, even if only as a loyal dog…”

Those were the painful whispers of Yue Guanyi – the proud Crown Prince of the Great Qi, who was torn between deep love and a guilty conscience. Despite holding the supreme power of the Imperial Guard, he still could not forget the dark past when he was sold into a brothel.

Fate played a cruel twist when Qiu Shuzhi – a young female official who had just passed the imperial examinations with top honors – stepped into his life. She did not know that she was the one who had saved him from a tragic fate many years ago. And now, her heart was the target of pursuit for both Yue Guanyi and the powerful Empress Dowager Qin Qing.

While Yue Guanyi only dared to silently care for and protect the one he loved from afar, the  Empress Dowager Qin Qing openly expressed his feelings and did not hesitate to take advantage of his power to approach Qiu Shuzhi. The covert struggle between the two most powerful forces in the imperial court began…

Trigger warning: All men in this novel are yandere style.
