“The wind is chilly. It’s best to be cautious until your body has fully recovered.”

This time, his tone was somewhat softened.

Helena slowly brought her body back from leaning out of the window. She had never intended to jump in the first place. It was just the second floor, and she simply wanted to smell the street.

But she couldn’t help feeling irked. Turning around, she faced the man with a cold gaze.

“Why should I listen to someone I’ve just met?”

“…….”

“…….”

Thirty seconds passed in silence.

He seemed about to say something, then reached out his hand. Helena’s body involuntarily flinched.

His arm stopped midway, and he slightly grimaced. His bony hand clenched and unclenched near her face a few times before he finally reached out to close the window.

Helena watched his every move. The bitter expression on his face washed away with his sigh.

“Even though we’ve just met, how about adding that I saved your life as a footnote?”

Now that the window was closed, she had something solid at her back. Helena leaned against the window sill, her arms crossed.

“Whatever you want, I have nothing to give. I’m empty-handed.”

“You can give something.”

Helena tilted her head back. It took considerable effort to look up at him from this angle.

He seemed a bit taller than Eugene. She had rarely seen anyone as tall as Eugene, but looking up at him, her neck ached slightly more.

Uncomfortable with this height difference, she asked with a hint of sarcasm, “Do you want to sleep with me?”

At this moment, she had nothing to offer. If there was anything she could think of, it was this.

She admitted to herself that the question wasn’t so bad. For the first time, she read a hint of discomfort in him. His purple eyes briefly contracted and dilated.

His expression soon returned to one of bitterness.

“I’ve told you what I want.”

His hand moved up her arm to her shoulder. Barely touching her, he straightened the disheveled cloth.

“Your life.”

The fabric settled back into place.

Was it because her underwear was showing? The skin where his hand had been tingled, and Helena looked away.

They fell silent again.

After a moment, Helena straightened up from the window sill. He stepped back in response, allowing her to look at him witho
He approached with a resolutely stern expression. Anticipating another unending argument, Helena completely turned her head away.

The door was locked, and she needed to escape the room.

Regrettably, the only visible escape route was the window.

She wondered, what else could break besides her limbs? Helena passed by him, aiming to return to the window.

Ian seized the moment and caught her. His grip on her wrist was firm but not suffocating.

Helena glared.

“You won’t let go, will you?”

“You know it well.”

“Why can’t you understand this? Don’t meddle in others’ business.”

“I meddled because it’s you, Helen.”

“Don’t act like you know everything about me. How on earth do you know my name.”

Gurgle.

“…….”

“…….”

It was unbelievable. Why, of all times?

Helena’s face heated up. The argument quickly crumbled in the face of such a basic, involuntary response.

This was an embarrassment she hadn’t felt in a long time. She thought she was immune to most insults, unphased even when mocked in public.

Yet, this utterly simple sound stirred forgotten emotions.

As if weighed down by these feelings, Helena couldn’t bring herself to raise her head. Her wrist was released, but she didn’t move.

Ian, as if nothing had happened, casually suggested,

“Let’s go out and eat something.”

“I’m not hungry.”

“You’re still bad at lying.”

He was laughing. Helena could tell even without looking at his face.

From his voice, she sensed amusement. He might not be laughing out loud, but a slight smile was certainly there.

Not wanting to see him, Helena stubbornly maintained her silence, her head bowed. Then, something enveloped her.

“……?”

It was a cape made from the light, warm fur of a blue rat. Soon, hands reached around her neck.

“It’s cold outside.”

Ian tied the cape in a natural motion. Only then did Helena slowly lift her head.

Meeting her gaze, Ian, as she had anticipated, smiled slightly. Annoyingly crinkling the corners of his eyes, he asked,

“Luckily, I happen to have both the time for a meal and money to interfere with your stomach. May I?”

Helena exhaled heavily through her nose, lips firmly sealed. He was an incredibly bothersome man, clinging on relentlessly.

She pointed to the door in resignation.

“How do you plan to leave when someone has twisted the doorknob?”

“Well, we could just break it down, I suppose.”

He reached the door in just a few steps and grabbed the handle. Soon, the wooden panel split, and the door fell off in one piece.

“That was easy.”

Having opened the door in a novel way, he stepped aside. Amidst this, he seemed to be performing a pointless act of chivalry.

Helena, dressed in clothes he bought, wrapped in the cape he tied, and carrying the bag he saved, began to step forward.

When the male lead is punished by carrying the female lead’s child and having periods like a woman

“I’ve given birth to two children for you, yet you still think about him.

Was I nothing but his substitute to you from beginning to end?”
