Contrary to her desire to maintain maximum distance, Helena found herself cornered. Not even a single step back was possible.

Behind her was a blocked door, and in front, the man blocking it.

A small decision solidified in her mind. She didn’t like using vulnerabilities, but she had no choice.

Helena slowly extended her hand, carefully brushing away the silver hair on Ian’s forehead to reveal his cheek, and gently placed her hand on it.

He didn’t swat her hand away. Gaining a bit more courage, Helena, just as he had done, gently caressed his cold skin with her thumb.

After rubbing his cheek a couple of times, he slowly opened and closed his eyes. Their gazes met from close range.

It had been so long since she had seen herself reflected in someone’s eyes.

“Do you always look at people like that, or were your eyes always made that way?”

“……What do you mean?”

Helena slid her hand down to his nape. The well-defined muscles under her palm flinched slightly.

Ignoring the faint tremor, she pulled him closer. It took just a little effort, and he easily came along.

Helena asked, tilting her head slightly, “Do you know me?”

Then whispered, “I don’t know you.”

That moment, the breath warming her cheek vanished. Ian paused his breathing.

His face again showed the emotion she had repeatedly ignored.

This time, instead of avoiding, Helena pulled him even closer. He looked slightly bewildered.

‘He didn’t seem like the type to be disturbed by such contact. Is this an act too?’

Regardless, this was her only chance.

Helena forcefully raised her knee, intent on using force to leave.

“You let your guard down. I should’ve remembered that you still had the power to charm people.”

Until her knee abruptly halted midway.

“Let go.”

“Your stubbornness remains the same. I should’ve brought a trap for catching cats.”

“I said let go.”

“Don’t you know it’s not possible?”

Ian, not using the hand bracing the door, grabbed the area above her knee, applying firm pressure.

He then pushed his thick thigh between her legs, completely controlling her movement. Their bodies became even closer.

“A storm is coming soon. All other inns have already closed their doors.”

His slow voice brushed her ear. Helena struggled, but couldn’t break free from his embrace.

No matter how hard she pushed, his solid chest felt unmovable, like confronting a huge rock.

It was hard to believe this was the same man who had been easily led by her touch just moments ago.

Meanwhile, Ian remained calm amidst all her efforts. He gently touched her forehead, his expression growing more stern.

“You still haven’t recovered from the fever. Going out like this, you’ll collapse again.”

Helena internally scoffed.

What good does it do to mask it with concern? It was just another way to enforce his will. The annoyance she had managed to suppress slowly resurfaced.

She disliked being completely seen through by him. She wasn’t a stray cat to be tamed.

Her only option now was a sharp attitude.

“Good for you. Since someone interrupted my earlier attempt, I can just continue where I left off.”
Helena glared at him as fiercely as she could. With him uttering such tiresome words, even a saint would have their limits.

She felt utterly pathetic, but even this was insufficient for him. Ian had penetrated her defenses far too easily.

“Too bad. Someone’s going to stop you from dying now, just like earlier.”

Ian stepped back slightly.

Helena’s momentary relief at the newfound space was short-lived.

A wrenching, twisting sound came from below.

As Ian withdrew his clenched right hand, a crumpled golden lump was revealed – the once intact door handle.

A chill ran down Helena’s spine. Something had gone terribly wrong. She felt as if she had stepped into an inescapable quagmire.

“Now we’re both trapped. With no way out, it’s best to just get some sleep,” said the man who had caused their entrapment.

Before Helena could protest, a large hand wrapped around her waist. Lifting her onto his shoulder like a sack of potatoes, he approached the bed.

Helena screamed and flailed, but only her fists hurt. Ian nonchalantly threw her onto the bed.

“Oof!”

The bounce momentarily dazed Helena. In the meantime, Ian meticulously pulled up the covers over her.

“What are you trying to do?”

As soon as her dizziness subsided, Helena sat up abruptly, confronting him.

Ignoring her outcry, he casually laid down on the floor and remained silent.

Helena stared into the darkness, unable to discern his expression amidst the shadows of furniture.

Swoosh – the sound of rain began pouring down. The rhythmic noise of water filled the space.

The fierce wind occasionally rattled the window frames. Silence lingered for a while.

With no other choice, Helena burrowed into the blankets. She curled up and waited for several more flashes of lightning.

The sound of the wooden floorboards creaking indicated that he had turned away, lying on his back.

Helena also turned towards the window and lay on her side. Both lay with their backs to each other, eyes closed.

Male lead is reincarnated to save his wife

I’ve also read this one twice already. The female lead is kinda soft and gets embarrassed easily—not really my type, but the plot is definitely worth reading. Hurry up and read it, y’all!

Intro

When Shen Yuan encountered Su Jin again in his previous life, she had already become the Prime Minister of the current dynasty. As for him, the former top young master of the capital, he had long since fallen into the abyss, becoming a singer on a pleasure boat.

After a song ended, he was redeemed and sent to the Su Residence.

Su Jin respected and cherished him, gave him a roof over his head, and bestowed him with warmth. Shen Yuan fell deeper and deeper, but before he could express his feelings, Su Jin passed away.

Shen Yuan died to follow her in death, but instead, he returned to when he was fifteen years old.

At that time, he was not yet engaged, and Su Jin was just a poor scholar.

Shen Yuan gritted his teeth, casting aside all his pride, and thought of ways to coax and entice her every day.

The colder and more indifferent Su Jin was towards him, the more proactive Shen Yuan became.

He was not afraid of being mocked by the world, only wanting to marry his Wife-master early, to hold her hand and never let go for a lifetime.

[Note: This story will not specifically point out the male lead’s reincarnation time point; it’s all in the details. Whenever you feel that the male lead is acting strangely, he has most likely been reincarnated.]
