“Are you Helena Owen?”

Perhaps that’s when it all began.

When the gods completely abandoned her.

Helena, who rose from a wandering witch to a noble archduchess, thought so.

“Strangely, when I am near you, my heart feels at ease. The more I think of you, the more I miss you. I wish you would feel the same about me.”

Eugene Hyde von Evergail.

The lord of the land under which the villagers who cursed her stepped,

From the moment she encountered Duke Evergail, she believed her blessings and tragedies were born.

‘It’s all in the past now.’

But it was a realization that no longer mattered.

Helena should have realized it earlier. In the face of a power that dims everything, both blessings and tragedies faded like a fog-shrouded swamp.

Memories blurred, and a grand drum sound echoed, as if heralding the end of the world, thumping in her ears.

“The execution of Helena Evergail shall now commence.”

Finally, once again. The executioner’s proclamation fell as concisely as her downfall. From a noble archduchess to a reviled death-row prisoner, not many words were needed.

Helena crawled helplessly like an empty tin can, kicked by the executioner. Her eyes, swollen and teary, made it hard to see.

She barely felt her raw wrists, chafed by the rough rope. Her broken legs, left untreated for days, had lost all sensation.

An intense chill twisted her to the bone. Helena tried to reflect on her past within it but soon gave up.

As she bowed her head, a dark shadow loomed over her.

“Helena.”

His voice, deep and pleasant as when they first met, calling her name.

Though some might find his tone cold and aloof, to Helena, it was one of the many reasons she fell in love with him.

Yet.

Had she known his voice would turn into poison, choking her breath, would she have loved him?

‘No, I couldn’t have.’

That’s why it ended up like this. Helena strained to lift her head and looked up at Eugene.

“You’re the worst.”

She met his eyes, now devoid of any warmth, reluctantly.

“If you were going to abandon me like this, you shouldn’t have approached me in the first place.”

She wanted to stay composed until the end, but her lips trembled as she spoke, barely holding back tears.

So sorrowful and full of grievance, resentment gradually welled up.

“You shouldn’t have given me affection. Not held me warmly. Not said you loved me. Not if you weren’t confident to the end!”

Finally, her outcry, akin to a scream, burst forth. Rising and collapsing ignobly.

“To me, to me… You shouldn’t have reached out.”

Her voice, hoarse and exhausted, faded like dying embers.

The crowd’s jeers and condemnations pained her less than his cold gaze. More so because his eyes were never meant to be that way.

“Why did you raise my hopes only to slam me to the ground, making it more miserable? Did you enjoy watching me being swayed by every word you said?”

“Do you think you even have the right to be angry at me now?”
“You said you loved me. That you would be with me forever. You promised… And yet, am I still so insignificant to you?”

“You brought this upon yourself, Helen. No matter how pitiful your situation was, you should not have killed Natasha.”

“I didn’t kill her. I’m telling the truth. Please believe me.”

“Ha, Helena.”

Eugene sighed heavily, trying to suppress his anger, and rubbed his face.

Helena wished she could go deaf to avoid hearing what was to come next.

But with her hands tied, she couldn’t even cover her ears.

“Pay for your sin of taking Natasha from me with your wretched life.”

A click of his tongue painfully pierced her heart.

The penetrating gaze felt like it was slashing her entire body.

“Eugene, Eugene…! Don’t leave! Eugene!”

Despite Helena’s desperate cries, he turned away with an expression as if looking at filthy trash.

The muffled footsteps faded away, drowned out by the crowd gathered to witness the execution.

Amid the chaos, the executioner grabbed Helena’s hair and dragged her onto the scaffold.

Ah, ah, ahh…

Only unformed sighs circled in her throat.

If his love was everything to her, and now that love was retracted, leaving no path to return.

‘How am I supposed to live now?’

Her thoughts were brief. Under the dawn’s early light, the thick blade shimmered.

It swooped down on her neck with a swish.

Swoosh!

And so, the first life rolled away.

“Huh, hah…!”

At the end of two more crumbling lives, as she opened her eyes for the fourth time.

Helena finally realized.

It was time to truly end the love with him.

Once, Helena was wise enough to know her place. A stubborn witch of the impoverished Owen family, who would throw away nobility and dignity for money. That was her.

Without a single dress for protection, her natural beauty and body were not blessings but sins. She instinctively understood the yoke of selling herself would only bring greater misfortune.

So, knowing too well, she dared to act beyond her station.

“Please go back now. And I wish you would not visit anymore.”

When male lead is the homewrecker

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.

Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.

The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.

I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.

There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.

For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.

I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.

Here’s the story synopsis:

One-line summary: She is his lifelong obsession, to the point where he was willing to be a third wheel, scorned by society, just to wedge his way into her relationship with her fiancé.

Cold-hearted and indifferent female lead + Scheming and subservient CEO male lead

Intro 1:

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

With blood trickling from his clenched fist, Rong Xiu gazed at the woman before him, his eyes clouded with anguish. Hidden in the wardrobe, he had witnessed Fan Xia – the woman he desperately loved – in an intimate embrace with her fiancé. Yet his heart still yearned for her, defying all reason.

Fan Xia, the elegant and composed assistant, carried something mysterious in her eyes whenever she looked at her fiancé, Wen Lan Sheng. Strange occurrences began to surface – secret meetings with the young Gu Jin Yi, an unexplained withdrawal of 5,000 yuan… Then suddenly, her fiancé’s sister, Wen Jing, violently attacked her.

In this matriarchal society, Rong Xiu had risen to become the chairman of a powerful healthcare conglomerate, breaking through gender prejudices. But for the first time, he willingly stepped into the shadows as the other man, disregarding his friends’ warnings to become her secret lover.

Because he had discovered the truth – Fan Xia wasn’t the pure angel everyone believed her to be. And perhaps, he was the only one capable of helping her execute her mysterious plan…

Intro 2:

Rong Xiu’s biggest regret in life was missing out on Fan Xia.

He secretly loved Fan Xia for 7 years.

Watched her go public with her boyfriend.

Watched her kiss her boyfriend at their wedding.

Until that man blissfully nestled in Fan Xia’s arms, obtaining everything he could only dream of.

The crazy jealousy stripped away his hidden secret love, layer by layer, burning like wildfire.

Fan Xia, how can I have you!
