“Are you planning to run away like this?”
Sehee’s heart sank at the chillingly low tone of his voice.
A tall man with broad shoulders, who even obscured the high noon sun in the sky.
Kyle Graham Evans.
There he was, standing right in front of Sehee.
The shadow cast over Kyle’s face darkened his pale skin as much as his black hair.
His deep blue eyes, like the abyss of the ocean, unwaveringly stared straight at Sehee.
At that moment, as she met his gaze, Sehee’s heart, which seemed to have stopped in shock, started to pound again.
“…It’s not running away, I’m returning. Back to my original place.”
Trying to hide the tremble in her voice caused by her shaken emotions, Sehee spoke as calmly as she could.

“Why does it look to me like you’re fleeing?”
His arrogant gaze scanning her felt as if it was binding her entire being.
“The journey has ended, so naturally, it’s time to step away from this deviation.”
“Just a deviation?”
Kyle’s thick eyebrows twitched at the word ‘deviation’ that Sehee uttered.
His voice, deeper than before, seemed to lower the surrounding temperature.
“…Yes. A mere fling. A fleeting and forgettable nothingness, easily sparked in a strange land.”
Even though Sehee herself called it nothing, her heart crumbled at her own words.
Every word she uttered was the exact opposite of what her heart conveyed.
Sehee bit her trembling lips.

“A fleeting and forgettable nothingness, is that it?”
Kyle’s deep blue eyes filled with displeasure as he muttered.
Sehee struggled not to be fooled by his expression.
It was all a play.
All a lie.
If the place they had met was not the Deco or a cruise ship, or if it hadn’t been its maiden voyage.
Complex emotions swirled inside Sehee.
Kyle’s gaze on her darkened even more, almost appearing black.
His eyes seemed to pierce through her soul, capturing Sehee’s white face filled with suppressed emotions.
“Are you asking me to believe that? Is that your true feeling?”

Kyle’s question weighed down Sehee’s heart like chains.
Bearing that weight, Sehee struggled to meet Kyle’s gaze.
He wouldn’t understand.
Despite knowing all this is a lie,
His eyes,
His words,
Shake my heart like this.
He wouldn’t know.
From the moment I first saw him, my heart might have already fallen for him.
To him, my feelings are insignificant.

To calm her turbulent emotions, Sehee took a deep breath.
And made a decision.
It wasn’t falling for his deception, but rather stepping out of a deviation she initiated herself.
Sehee’s long hair, fluttering in the Venetian harbor breeze, settled calmly, just like her resolved heart.
One wound was enough.
She didn’t want another.
“…It’s the truth.”
Sehee coldly uttered, resolute.
“Finally, it ends… will you?”
As if unable to accept Sehee’s decision, Kyle did not retreat.

Instead, he closed the distance between them.
As he came near, his strong scent overwhelmed Sehee, filling her lungs.
“…But I, Kyle Graham Evans, have no intention of letting you go.”
Kyle’s intense gaze on Sehee made her feel trapped and unable to push him away.
“As if knowing she couldn’t resist, Kyle’s firm arms naturally wrapped around Sehee’s slender waist. His dizzying kiss, as if he had been waiting for it, etched a strong thrill in Sehee’s heart.
“It’s on the 4th of next month.”
With an arrogant flick of his fingers, Hyojun adjusted the rimless glasses perched on his neat nose bridge and uttered indifferently. It was 9 AM, and the office was just beginning to bustle with activity. Hyojun had chosen this time deliberately. To silently pressure her to keep her mouth shut.
Sehee’s fist clenched tightly at Hyojun’s brazen action, losing its color. Three years. Three wasted years thinking of this trash as a lover.
On the desk lay a golden invitation, its engraved words piercing Sehee’s heart – a wedding invitation. How could someone be so shameless? How many people would brazenly hand their ex-girlfriend a wedding invitation, especially when they work in the same department?
Seething with rage, Sehee’s face turned pale. The connection had already ended, and while her head screamed to act rationally, the rising fury had already pierced her heart.
Sehee was supposed to be the one whose name would be alongside trash like Cha Hyojun on that invitation, at least until three months ago.

Three months prior, at the first formal meeting with Hyojun’s parents, Sehee was embarrassingly rejected. She had thought it was because of Hyojun’s mother’s severe opposition, who, not knowing Sehee was an orphanage alumnus, even went as far as shaming her upbringing.
Hyojun, whom Sehee had believed would shield her, merely stood by like a bystander. Disappointed in him, they ended up arguing.
After that day, Hyojun’s behavior noticeably changed. Yet, since Hyojun had once filled her with hope and excitement for a true family, Sehee blamed herself for their drifting apart and tried her best to close the growing gap.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
