“It must be something they’ve done to stop us from gathering in Central. If word spreads that a plague is going around, no one will want to come here.”

“They might also be planning to occupy it after throwing everything into chaos.”

Idrish stroked his chin and nodded.

“We need to get the antidote quickly. But how can we obtain the antidote that only grows in Servian? I’m not sure we can secure such a large quantity.”

“I don’t know if we can help everyone, but I’ve already secured the antidote.”

At Idrish’s words, my eyes widened. He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, apparently uncomfortable under my intense gaze.

“When fighting snakes, it’s only natural to prepare against their greatest weapon.”

“But how did you get such a large amount?”

“I asked the head of the house. I thought he’d be able to make it.”

“Head of the Tesmilion house?”

“Yeah. He may seem like a reclusive old man, but he’s quite clever. All he ever does is stay holed up in his study, reading books and experimenting with herbs. After receiving the poison, he seemed deeply immersed in research—and eventually succeeded in creating the antidote.”

Wow.

My jaw dropped. I never imagined the head of the Tesmilion house had such abilities.

When I see him, I’ll have to give him a thumbs-up for being so cool. He’ll probably pretend it’s nothing and just cough nonchalantly, but inside, he’ll be pleased.

Thinking of him made me even more desperate to finish everything quickly and return home.
