I wore a worn navy dress and a yellow apron that looked as if it had been washed hundreds of times, and tied my hair up securely with a headscarf so not a strand would fall loose.

It was a maid’s outfit. I planned to infiltrate the Smiron household as a maid.

“I don’t like it. Let’s put this method on hold.”

“Why? Do you know how hard I worked to pass the interview? It’s lucky this opportunity came up.”

The young lady of House Smiron had just announced she was going boating.

A noble’s boating excursion meant renting a grand vessel, inviting noble young ladies aboard, and feasting and frolicking on it.

For them, it was a delightful diversion and a display of wealth—but for the servants, it meant a mountain of work.

Not only did they have to attend to numerous noble children, but they also had to carry all the tables, decorations, and food onto the boat.

Well, it worked out perfectly for me. Because they needed so many hands, they were hiring maids and servants for just one day.

I passed the interview easily with my determined appearance, and now I only needed to show up for work today.

“Do you even understand what it means to go in as a maid? Not everyone in this world treats servants as kindly as you do.”

“I’m prepared for it. Besides, this isn’t the time to debate that.”

“I’d rather go as a servant myself.”

“No way! Idrish, you’ve got a face and build that stand out too much. And you’d probably be terrible at the work—whenever someone told you to do something, you’d likely rebel right away… I’ll just go myself. If I get a chance, I might even be able to casually ask around. You know I’m good with people, right? Don’t worry, Idrish—just trust me and rest easy.”

Idrish still clearly disapproved of the whole plan, but he couldn’t come up with a better solution before I left.
