“It’s not that you’re too scared to speak, is it?”

“Don’t talk nonsense. It’s not that—it’s just that among beastfolk, asking that kind of question is rude. There’s still discrimination between species.”

“Really? Between species?”

“There’s a tendency to look down on herbivores or small animals.”

“Oh dear, how awful. They must think they can act like that just because they’re stronger.”

“That’s why if you always stay in human form, no one will ask you that. If anyone does, just say you’re from the wolf tribe.”

“Alright. We’re heading to the wolf territory of Robero anyway.”

I was just beginning to wonder what kind of people the wolf beastfolk were.

Idrish suddenly grabbed my wrist. He studied my palm intently.

“You’re not hurt, are you?”

Ah, it’s just stained purple. It didn’t show at all earlier.

“No, it’s just grape juice. Do you want to smell it? It has a sweet fragrance.”

I brought my hand close to Idrish’s nose. He sniffed it again with a serious expression. It looked so funny I barely managed to hold back my laughter.

“I thought you’d been eating grapes all night. Why didn’t you say anything yesterday?”

“No particular reason. I just wanted to do it all by myself.”
