I stifled a giggle as I watched Percop thrash about in desperation. The situation was still too precarious to relax, but seeing him so utterly frustrated felt undeniably satisfying.

If I’d known he’d be this terrified, I should’ve pretended to cast a curse on him.

“Find that woman at once and kill her!”

Of course, that icy command was frightening. I could clearly picture the fate that would’ve awaited me if Talpinus hadn’t arrived in time to rescue me.

I quietly thanked Talpinus beside me.

Just then, an unexpected scream echoed from the far end of the corridor.

The soldiers in the hallway must have heard it too, for they all turned toward the source of the sound.

“What’s going on? The enemy couldn’t possibly have scaled the walls already. Go immediately, assess the situation, and report back.”

At Percop’s swift order, the soldiers rushed toward where the scream had come from.

Everyone held their breath and stared intently into the dark end of the corridor.

“Kraaagh!”

This scream was closer than the last.

“What… what is it?”

But only the screams continued—none of the soldiers sent to investigate returned. Panic was clearly written all over Percop’s face.

“Guard me.”
