His emerald green eyes fixed directly on me. His pupils narrowed like a snake’s.

“It’s Ferko Sergeyevich.”

There was no doubt about it. It was undoubtedly Ferko.

My entire body felt paralyzed.

Ferko’s face was filled with a silent smile, and wrinkles lined his cheekbones.

“You, Cecilia Erijo.”

Though I couldn’t hear the words, his lip movements were clear.

A shiver ran down my spine. There was no doubt. Just as I had recognized Ferko when I saw him, he was convinced that I was Cecilia.

How could this be?

As if answering my doubts, Ferko’s hoarse voice reached me through the darkness.

“I’ve wanted to confirm it for a long time, to see for myself if you’re really Cecilia Erijo. I thought you would come here if you were. And you did.”

Kerchunk, the sky rumbled low. It was on the verge of a thunderstorm.

“But it’s strange. Your face is unforgettable. But there’s something odd.”

Ferko took step after step closer.

“Surely you’re the one I killed with my own hands. It was clear that you were dead, and then you disappeared out of the blue. Could it be that your curse has come true?”

Curse?

Ferko had clearly mentioned a curse.

It was in that very moment.

Someone’s voice filled my mind.

“You will not achieve what you desire. I will return someday. When I do, I will lead you down the path of destruction.”

This wasn’t Ferko speaking, nor was it me.

It was the voice of the past Cecilia.

The curse she had placed upon Ferko.

I could feel her emotions. Anger, sorrow, and hatred.

My heart felt like it was shattering. I gripped it tightly.

I felt like I knew the reason I had been summoned to this world. Because I was someone who knew of the predetermined destiny, I was the one who could lift Cecilia’s curse.
“It doesn’t matter. Whether you’re really Cecilia Erijo or a reincarnated demon cursed, it doesn’t matter. You can’t stop me anyway. It’s already too late.”

Ferko’s words drove forward. He approached rapidly, like a devil drawing near. It felt like a nightmare that couldn’t be broken.

At that moment, the sky brightened suddenly. Following that, thunder roared so loudly that my ears hurt. I was startled and covered my ears.

“Ugh.”

Whoosh.

Heavy rain poured down.

I raised my head again to survey the surroundings, searching for Ferko or rather the place where Ferko had been.

He had disappeared entirely.

The carriage door creaked open.

“Cecilia. What’s going on?”

Igdriš stood there in the pouring rain, looking at me.

Igdriš.

A rush of relief flowed through me. Along with the relief came the feeling that my body might give way. I embraced Igdriš tightly. His warm body temperature brought me comfort.

“What’s happening…”

Igdriš was about to speak but stopped. He wrapped one arm around my back and used the other to shield my head from the rain.

My racing heart and labored breath gradually calmed down. I looked up at Igdriš. His silvery hair was wet, and his prominent features were slightly disheveled. I probably didn’t look much different.

Igdriš’s warm breath reached me through the cold air. He appeared as impassive as ever, but his eyes held a hint of worry.

“I’m scared… Don’t leave my side.”

Igdriš seemed puzzled. He didn’t know why I was acting this way, but he didn’t press further. Instead, he replied quietly in a low voice.

“Alright.”

I tightly held onto Igdriš’s waist, burying my face against his chest.

Until Mogus’s voice reached us.

“Haha, it’s a lovely sight, but is there a particular reason you have to do this in the rain?”

I quickly let go.

Mogus walked towards us leisurely, attempting to hold an umbrella over our heads. Due to his short stature, he accidentally bumped into Igdriš’s head.

Why did he have to wake up now when he’d been sleeping soundly until just a moment ago? And why did he have to interrupt us at such a crucial moment?

We returned to our lodgings drenched.

Since it wasn’t a train, we naturally had two rooms. However…

Igdriš couldn’t sleep alone. I knew I was alive, but what if Ferko came back? I couldn’t help but worry.

In the end, I grabbed a pillow and knocked on Igdriš’s door hastily.

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
