Carlos had several issues to resolve before heading to the capital, and one of them was Irene.

Leaving Irene at Esper Castle while he was away wasn’t an option—without him there, Dale or his lackeys might very well pull some underhanded tricks.

Yet taking her to the capital wasn’t feasible either, given the abundance of other dangers there, such as the Empress and the Temple.

Moreover, due to Dale’s curse, Carlos couldn’t even use half his power once he left the Esper Territory.

He was confident he could handle the Empress or some pigeons, but when it came to fully protecting Irene… well, that was another matter.

Unless he could guard her twenty-four hours a day without fail, he simply couldn’t guarantee her safety.

…Perhaps it really was best to leave her behind in the Esper Territory.

In that case, he’d need to assign her a bodyguard.

He needed someone strong enough to protect her even if Dale and his cronies tried anything underhanded.

The problem was, there was no such knight available.

Dus was decent, admittedly, but there was one fatal flaw in assigning him as her guard.

Then who could he possibly assign?

No, before that, he first needed to decide where Irene would stay.
