The next day, Irene headed to the temporary monster training ground located in the eastern annex of Esper Castle early in the morning.

Esper Castle originally had its own monster training facility, but this place was specifically used to strictly manage monsters deemed more likely to cause trouble than to train properly.

Even so, there were only about three or four monsters at most, so the monster training facility within Esper Castle was quite small.

However, due to the recent monster uprising, the territory’s main monster training facility had temporarily closed, forcing all the monsters housed there to relocate to the castle’s existing facility. As it couldn’t accommodate them all, they had no choice but to repurpose the eastern annex.

“Are you really sure you can handle menial tasks, miss?”

Jesse followed closely behind Irene, asking worriedly.

She hadn’t stopped Irene the day before partly because she’d admired how Irene went to Carlos herself to make the request, but also because she’d assumed Carlos would surely refuse.

Yet, to her utter shock, not only did he not refuse—he actually gave permission.

Jesse couldn’t believe Irene’s claim that she’d received approval, so she even went to Carlos herself to confirm if it was true.

“If it’s not dangerous, I won’t stop you from doing what you wish.”

That was what Carlos had told her.

Though Irene wouldn’t be in danger as long as she wasn’t directly handling the monsters herself, Jesse still felt she should have discouraged her from taking on chores like cleaning.

Frustrated but unable to say anything to Carlos, Jesse could only suffer in silence.

When Irene insisted on wearing a comfortable dress instead of a fancy one since she’d be doing chores, Jesse nearly grabbed her by the neck.

“It’ll be awfully hard on you. You’re not even feeling well as it is… Why not give up now?”
