Irene had been worried that reporting to Carlos every day would be burdensome, but it turned out easier than she’d feared.

All she had to do was recount what she’d learned in class, as if reviewing her lessons.

Jerdin hardly ever spoke about anything unrelated to lessons, and even when he did, it was usually some boastful, pointless chatter—so while reporting it was somewhat embarrassing, it wasn’t difficult.

It was even somewhat amusing to see Carlos frown or click his tongue in exasperation whenever she reported Jerdin’s nonsense.

“Oh, really now. Master, you’re being too much.”

“It’s not that I’m being too much—it’s that you’re making unreasonable demands without knowing your place, don’t you think?”

Another reason Irene could ease her worries was that Carlos and Jerdin didn’t seem to be on particularly bad terms.

Still, Carlos must have had some other reason for ordering her to report everything Jerdin said.

Probably something to do with noble affairs I don’t know about.

Irene thought there was no way Carlos and Jerdin could get along so well otherwise, so she completely let go of her concerns about that.

“You could give it to me just once!”

“No means no. If you keep making unreasonable demands, just go back to the imperial palace.”

…Those two are still arguing.

Irene shook her head. She was impressed by Carlos’s unwavering refusal despite Jerdin’s pleading, but equally impressed by Jerdin’s persistence in continuing to ask.

If it were me, I’d have immediately agreed the moment Carlos said no.
