As Duey mumbled to himself and was about to go upstairs, Carlos roughly grabbed his collar.

Thump[Dash].

Duey, who had fallen, looked up at Carlos, rubbing his sore buttocks.

Although his face suggested he had a lot to say, no words came out.

He just looked at Carlos with a sad expression, then sighed deeply and lowered his head.

“If you don’t like what I’m doing, please tell me.”

Carlos said, nodding insincerely.

“I need wound medicine.”

“What?”

Since wound medicine had nothing to do with Carlos, it took Duey a few seconds to interpret his words.

“Ah. It seems the young lady is hurt.”

Carlos nodded, recalling the wounds on her back and arms.

Judging by the scabs that had not hardened for long, it was clear she had been hurt recently.

Probably when she was branded a witch and imprisoned.

From their point of view, Irene was a witch, so it was entirely possible, but he still didn’t like it.

If something went wrong with her, he would have to wait in vain again.

Further waiting was out of the question.

They didn’t have much time left.

“Did she say Silos’s territory?”

“It’s Silas’s territory.”

Correcting the mistake, Duey tactfully asked,

“Shall I handle it?”

By handling it, he meant completely eradicating not only Silas’s territory but also the Silas family.

Carlos glanced at the second floor where Irene was, then nodded.

“I never want to hear that name again.”

The moment Duey bowed his head in understanding, a sound like a dog barking was heard somewhere.

When Irene came down after changing, Carlos handed her the wound medicine Duey had brought.

Why this? She looked at him, puzzled, and Carlos said,

“Apply it.”

“Am I…hurt?”

“Didn’t you know?”

When Irene nodded, Carlos gave a hollow laugh.

She had so many wounds, yet she didn’t know. She wasn’t just dull.

Or perhaps she was used to the pain.

Carlos thought it might be the latter.

After all, her body had many old wounds and scars, clearly not from simple falls, but evident signs of abuse.

He should have asked for scarremoval medicine as well.

Carlos thought he would have to tell them when they returned to the castle, and handed the medicine to Irene.

Irene blinked slowly, looking at the wound medicine, and then whispered,

“Thank you…very much.”
The response was not forthcoming. Irene fiddled with the wound ointment, put it in her pocket, and held out his neatly folded coat.

“Cover yourself with this, it’ll be cold as we go further north.”

“I’m fine….”

“Cover yourself.”

With the determination not to accept, Carlos swiftly left.

Irene looked at his retreating figure with a flustered expression and quickly followed.

A carriage was ready in front of the inn.

Again, Dewey sat on the coachman’s seat, and only Carlos and Irene were in the carriage.

Feeling uncomfortable, Irene asked Dewey if she could sit on the coachman’s seat, but was refused.

The reason was that he could not let her sit in such a dangerous place.

Then Dewey and the coachman could sit in the dangerous coachman’s seat?

Irene was puzzled, but Dewey firmly said no, so she had no choice but to climb into the carriage.

All the while running through the forest, she tucked in her neck like a turtle and watched Carlos, who was sitting across from her.

He might not be as scary as she thought, but she was still afraid of him.

The tight tension slowly loosened as nothing happened as time passed.

Irene, who found relative ease of mind compared to when she first got on the carriage, looked out the window.

Then she saw a beautiful lake, like a picture. The warm sunlight shining on the lake sparkled as if fairies were flying around it.

Irene, entranced by the scenery she had never seen before, stared at the lake.

Seeing her like this, Carlos thought for a moment and knocked on the window connected to the coachman’s seat.

A moment later, the carriage stopped, and Dewey opened the door.

“Did you call?”

“Let’s take a short break.”

At that, Dewey’s gaze naturally turned to Irene.

Carlos couldn’t be tired at this point, so it was clear that he was suggesting a break for her sake.

Unaware of this fact, Irene was pleased that she could enjoy the beautiful lake a little longer.

Of course, she did not show it openly but was glad inside.

But she couldn’t stop her mouth from curving up and her eyes from looking toward the lakeshore.

Carlos glanced at her and then spoke to Dewey.

“We might need some water on the way.”

Quickwitted Dewey realized what he wanted and answered with a smile.

“I have to take care of the carriage, so it would be best if the lady fetched the water.”

Carlos’s gaze shifted to Irene.

“So, will you go?”

“Yes, yes!”

Irene readily accepted. It was a good opportunity to see the beautiful lake up close, and there was no reason to refuse.

“Here’s the water container.”

As soon as she got out of the carriage, Dewey handed her the container.

Irene held the water container as if it were a precious treasure.

“It will take at least an hour for me to fix the carriage, so take the opportunity to see the lake.”

“Can I really?”

“Of course.”

Irene’s face brightened up. It was her first smile since meeting Carlos.

“I’ll be right back.”

Irene bowed and ran quickly toward the lake.

Dewey watched her until she was out of sight, then turned around.

He asked Carlos, who had just gotten out of the carriage.

“Is it alright to send her alone?”

What if she runs away?

In response to the question with an implied meaning, Carlos looked in the direction where Irene had disappeared and answered.

“I have no choice. I can’t send you, and I can’t go with her either.”

Since Dewey said he was fixing the carriage, following her was impossible, and if he went with her, Irene would be uncomfortable, so that was not an option either.

“If she runs away, just catch her again.”

Is it just a matter of catching her?

Dewey smiled.

“You seem to like the lady.”

Carlos snorted and leaned against the carriage wall.

“Nonsense.”

Being kind to Irene was solely to avoid repeating the same mistake.

Yes. That was all it was.

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day

It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.

The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.

Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.

If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.

It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.

The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.

In the end, everything will come together and be explained.

One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!

In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.

Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.

However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.

Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.

Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?

——

Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.

His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.

Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”

——

The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.

Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!

Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!

The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…

——

But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.

The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.

She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…

Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”

Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”

Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

[Small Theater]

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.

Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”

Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.

Zhu Wansheng: ?

Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…

On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.

Warm breath lingers on her neck.

“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
