Ophelia, the wisest sorceress and Western Sage, stared with wide blue eyes at the thin, tightly woven knots binding Lu’s entire body.

Pop, pop—the tiny knots began to unravel one by one. Though immeasurably slower than Hayden’s pace, Ophelia was concentrating fiercely. Each time a knot on the left ankle came loose, she’d loosen one on the right ankle as well.

Though the process was proceeding calmly, it was hard to keep her balance and stand straight. Lu swayed again.

“Lean on me. This isn’t the time to refuse, my lady.”

Though the knots appeared minuscule to the eye, each one sent a sharp, jolting sting as it came undone, causing Lu’s whole body to tense involuntarily.

Lu instinctively stepped backward—but Hayden’s solid frame was right behind her, so instead of retreating, she only leaned into him more.

Pitter-patter—when Ophelia began untying two or three knots at once, sweat started beading on her pale forehead. Yet, barely blinking her blue eyes, she lifted the corners of her mouth. Fierce energies clashed.

One was Carlos’s absolute, unyielding curse; the other was Ophelia’s magic—gentle and seemingly frail, yet tenacious, calm, and flexible. She somehow found and unraveled the gaps within the powerful curse.

“Agh…!”

But it was Lu who bore the full brunt of that collision. The shock pierced deep into her bones.

“He’s even woven in the tendons. The closer we get to your body’s core, the harder it’ll be to break the curse.”

Ophelia thrilled at the very fact that she could perceive and understand the curse itself. She could see it.

She could feel it. The intricately designed curse finally seemed to rest within her palm. Though breaking the curse easily was impossible, and breaking it while keeping Lu comfortable was difficult, Ophelia was still happy with this much.

“He’s bound the curse through to the very bones at the core. What a vile man.”

Only then could he fully steal Lu’s power for his own use. The more she looked, the more her blood ran cold.
