“My power seems to be serving you well.”

Ophelia said indifferently as she looked at Lu’s curse.

“So, the Archmage’s power is still alive, then.”

Hayden muttered, sipping his tea. But Ophelia, seemingly unbothered by such matters, merely gave a faint, dismissive smile.

Lu was left stunned, alternating her gaze between the curse binding herself and the one afflicting Ophelia.

The curse entwined around Lu spread delicately, strand by strand, forming an intricate web of knots that tied her body joint by joint. In contrast, Ophelia appeared tightly constricted by something resembling a massive serpent—far larger than any human—coiled firmly around her.

It wrapped thrice around her, from shoulder to knee, leaving her utterly immobilized.

Had Lu stared too intently? When their eyes met, she quickly averted her gaze.

“I shouldn’t be the one to say it, but it looks quite dreadful, doesn’t it?”

The words were directed at Lu.

“Neither of us is better off. We’re just grotesque in our own ways.”

Yet, without meaning to, Lu found herself comparing. Whenever the curse became visible, she avoided mirrors. Surely, from head to ankles—except for her eyes—her entire body would be densely covered in those repulsive knots.

Compared to her, Ophelia appeared free from neck upward and below the calves.

It made Lu envious—so much so that she felt pathetic. Right now, even adjusting to her unusually light limbs and bright vision was hard enough. At the same time, every bound part of her body felt unbearably heavy and suffocating.

“…Yes. It’s utterly repulsive.”
