“Impériale will move with you all starting tomorrow. After all, Count Plache is in overall command of the western monster purge, so it’s only natural.”

“You intend to meet the Mage Tower Lord?”

Hayden nodded in response to Millene’s question.

“We’ve come all the way here—I must meet them before leaving. More than anything, I thought that if we show them the young lady’s condition, perhaps we could figure out a way to help together.”

Lu saw her parents’ faces brighten at those words. Which parent wouldn’t be delighted to hear that?

“But hasn’t the Mage Tower Lord been in seclusion for many long years?”

The vast western region had a sparse population relative to its land area. Monster waves, occurring once every few years, drove people away from these lands—so much so that even an outsider like Count Plache could become the western overlord and be welcomed rather than met with hostility.

Anyone who protected their homes and lives from monsters was enough.

Thus, Count Plache, who as the western overlord knew every detail of this land, voiced his concern with a slightly worried tone. The western Mage Tower Lord had essentially retired, handing all authority over to the Emperor.

“He relinquished the Mage Tower to Your Majesty and now holds only the title of Sage.”

Ethan spoke with great caution.

“What are the current rumors about the Mage Tower, Count?”

“Still only stories that it’s been completely empty for hundreds of years. It’s a place difficult for ordinary people to approach, so rumors abound—but they’re merely repetitions of old tales.”

The oldest and most representative belief was that one would be cursed if approaching the Mage Tower, and thus should pass by respectfully without trespassing.

“If the Mage Tower Lord hadn’t appeared during Your Majesty’s coronation, even those rumors might have faded away.”
