The sound of noisy footsteps echoed from the entrance. In haste, Lu grabbed Hayden’s wrist and moved further inside. Although it was a dead-end, Lu hurriedly went to the left side of the wall.
“Here, I feel like there was something…”
Desperately touching the wall, she found no devices, but it sounded hollow when knocked.
“This way!”
The footsteps were getting closer. How do you open this wall? There was no visible door or device. When all else fails, hit it. With a swing of the scepter, a symbol of the Perseta imperial authority, Lu hit the wall.
“That’s…”
Hayden, who had been standing idly, looked at Lu with a face that seemed to say he had seen all sorts of strange things. Then, the wall split open, revealing enough space for a person to pass through.
“It worked.”
“Hurry.”
Lu, holding the wrist of a man much larger and heavier than herself, stepped inside. The wall closed behind them as soon as Hayden entered.
“Phew…”
For now, Lu let out a sigh of relief. Though the imperial guards might follow, the wall had provided a significant barrier.
“Your Highness, how did you know about this place?”
“I saw Carlos coming out from here a few years ago when I was in the treasury. I figured there was something behind that wall.”
Lu, panting and catching her breath, looked up.
Hayden was looking ahead with a cold expression. What was there to make him look like that?
The room was as spacious as the downstairs treasury but had been neglected for years, collecting dust. Scattered here and there were unorganized papers, experimental equipment, and torture tools.
Experimental equipment and torture tools? Lu gaped at the sight of chairs with fresh blood stains, shackles, and handcuffs.
“This lunatic…”
What on earth had Carlos been doing here? The desk in the vast room was cluttered with random papers.
Picking up a few papers, Lu found incomprehensible equations and symbols scribbled like doodles.
She took another look back and walked further inside, then gasped.
Behind the desk were rows of transparent cylindrical glass containers, large enough to fit a person. While most were empty, some actually contained people. Lu’s face twisted in disgust. They were all corpses, years past their death.
Madman, what is this, really….
Most of the bodies that couldn’t even enter the soil to decompose properly were children.
All blond, even some very young children were there.
My God. Lou cautiously looked around while keeping her back guarded, and upon seeing a girl in worn pink pajamas with her eyes closed, she clenched her eyes shut.
This was a giant experimental site, and a grave for children who weren’t treated as humans.
“Your Majesty?”
Lou called out to Hayden, who was staring blankly at an empty coffin.
“Are you okay?”
“Do I look like I’m not, Your Grace?”
He turned and smiled at her. But Lou wasn’t fooled.
“This place can’t be okay. Experimenting on humans.”
Lou stifled her nausea and read through more flying papers. But they were all equations.
“What were they trying to do?”
“This is also one of the treasures that Carlos Arthur Ingram stole from Perseta.”
“They are people.”
“Yes. Royalty.”
Hayden nodded solemnly and spoke chilling words without hesitation. People were stolen. Lou couldn’t believe it, but her head made very dreadful guesses. Perhaps it was literal.
Silently staring at the coffin, Hayden shifted his gaze towards Lou.
“On behalf of the Perseta Royal Family, I express deep gratitude, Your Grace. Thanks to you, we’ve recovered the bodies of the kidnapped royalty. The royal family will never forget this valuable deed.”
The Emperor expressed his gratitude to her with a chilly voice. Lou instantly understood what it meant. She had established a merit that nobody in the Perseta Empire could deny. Of course, that merit is acknowledged only when the royal power is strong.
“I have only done what is rightful as a new citizen who knows the truth, Your Majesty.”
So she responded this way. But it was a formal statement, and Lou gauged Hayden’s complexion.
“However, are you okay?”
Hayden looked at Lou, then behind her where they had come from. The soundproofing was excellent, but behind that wall, the imperial guards would have discovered the bodies and raised hell. Moreover, several treasures including the scepter and orb had disappeared.
“Your Majesty, you don’t look well.”
“Your Grace, from now on what I say is confidential, and you must not tell anyone.”
“Then don’t say it!”
She didn’t even want to know any secrets of Perseta.
“Then keep what you saw here under wraps. We merely happened upon the bodies; we don’t know what Carlos Arthur Ingram was doing here.”
With a stern face, Lou nodded. The fact that Emperor Caleta experimented on the descendants of the Perseta royal family would be a colossal shame and indelible scar.
“Alright, shall we go? The owner of this place should be arriving soon.”
By now, Carlos must have been alerted through magic. Hayden extended his hand to Lou.
“If things had gone well, I would have quietly returned as a Caleta diplomat.”
Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!
This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
