Klaus paced anxiously along the quiet corridor.

Beside him stood Count Bernas and his butler, Langton, silently.

All their attention was fixed solely on the firmly closed door.

Whenever even a faint groan drifted from within the bedroom, Klaus stiffened, his shoulders tensing.

Seeing him ready to burst through the door at any moment, Count Bernas let out a sigh.

“Calm yourself. It’s only been three hours.”

“Three hours is already far too long.”

Count Bernas clicked his tongue at Klaus’s agitated retort.

Then Langton quietly added, “Every expectant mother is different, but labor can take as little as two hours or even more than twenty-four.”

Just as he finished speaking, a strained groan from Rozelia echoed from inside the room.

Hearing her pained cry—something he’d never heard before—Klaus turned an uneasy gaze toward the door.

“Twenty-four hours? Won’t the mother be in danger by then?”

“There’s no need to worry so much. Skilled physicians and a midwife are inside. Barring any major complications, she’ll deliver safely.”

The barely audible addition—“barring any major complications”—made Klaus’s brow furrow.
