Klaus felt inexplicably irked at the thought of Johannes smelling the same fragrance he’d sensed from Antonio.

“Didn’t you just say no one should be near him while he’s in bloom?”

Sensing Klaus’s tensed hostility, Johannes let out a faint, deflating smile and continued.

“Blood kin are different.”

Johannes’s confident words instantly sealed Klaus’s mouth shut.

He felt an irrational surge of frustration at his own helplessness—unable to offer any aid and not even allowed to stay by Antonio’s side.

Johannes, watching him silently, spoke again in a flat tone.

“But even if I stay, I doubt anything would change. I’ll leave for now.”

At Johannes’s words, Klaus’s face—previously downturned like a deflated lion—brightened.

Seeing this, Johannes drove his point home with a firm warning.

“Don’t forget what I’ve told you.”

That absolutely no one must be near him at night.

“I trust you.”

Though Klaus couldn’t fathom why Johannes was making this request of him, with those final words, Johannes quietly stepped out of the mansion.

Klaus watched his retreating back in silence, then turned once more toward Antonio’s door, his expression heavy again.
