For a moment, she was at a loss for words at the wounded-animal look in his eyes.

Though she could easily have pulled her hand free from his loose grasp if she truly wanted to, strangely, she couldn’t bring herself to move.

Rozelia slowly moistened her unmoving lips with effort.

“What exactly do you mean by ‘a favor’…?”

At her deliberate pretense of ignorance, Klaus fixed his gaze steadily into her eyes.

“Your avoiding me.”

Klaus, frowning as he spoke, barely managed to continue.

“I don’t know why, but you seem to be keeping even more distance from me than before—and I’m telling you, Rozelia, I’m already suffering enough without you doing that.”

True to his words, his face twisted in evident pain as he pleaded desperately.

“So please, stop running away from me.”

His feverish gaze, betraying his unstable condition, made Rozelia’s heart flutter once again.

His voice, so full of pleading, rooted her feet to the spot.

But recalling Clojet, she steeled her resolve and twisted her wrist free from his grasp.

“It’s you who should stop this, Your Grace. If I’m going so far as to avoid you, shouldn’t you have realized long ago?”

She knew this was his hardest time—but precisely because of that, Rozelia spoke even more harshly.
