“This can’t be happening!”

Ulysses burst into Asperan’s bedroom, shouting at the top of his lungs. Asperan replied curtly.

“Get out.”

“Don’t be so cold, As. We’re both abandoned men—that’s plain for either of us to see.”

As he spoke, Ulysses shook the bottle of liquor he held in his hand.

Asperan wanted nothing more than to throw him out immediately, but instead he closed the book he’d been reading. That was sixty-year-old whiskey from Gransia’s most renowned distillery. He might not have cared much for Ulysses, but he couldn’t disrespect fine liquor.

Asperan took two crystal glasses from the display cabinet.

“What’s bothering you?”

“Well, for days now my wife has been cruelly ignoring me and spending all her time only with Miss Shuria! Why?!”

Ulysses flailed his limbs while sprawled on the sofa. On closer inspection, his face was slightly flushed—he’d clearly already had a few drinks before coming here.

Asperan savored his whiskey contentedly before replying.

“If you’re going to act drunk, go do it somewhere else.”

“Where else would I act drunk if not in front of you, my older brother?”

That was fair enough. As emperor of a nation, Ulysses always had to wear a mask.

Asperan, by nature, had always been taciturn and now wielded formidable royal authority—but Ulysses was different.
