Feeling a sense of crisis from Asperan’s words, I overslept again that day until late morning.

From the moment I woke up, I was extremely busy. I had to eat a hearty meal so I wouldn’t lose stamina climbing the mountain, take care of our Sammeomma, and pack my luggage.

Of course, I didn’t forget to carefully hide my most important items—the compass and the pocket watch—deep inside my clothes.

Thus, precisely at 2 p.m., a group of fifteen explorers, including Asperan and myself, set off toward the Gate.

It took us about four hours to reach the vicinity of the Gate. In truth, since the Gate had vanished, it was more accurate to say we arrived near the spot where the Gate should have been.

A transparent barrier had been erected around the place where the Gate ought to be. Curious about its aurora-like shimmer whenever touched, I kept poking it—until Akla, passing by, spoke up.

“It’s a barrier set up in case monsters try to come out through the Gate. If a monster hits it, an alert goes straight to the Exploration Branch.”

“I-I see.”

I hope my poking didn’t accidentally trigger a malfunction…

I quickly pulled my finger back and hurried over to Asperan’s side, determined not to cause any trouble.

Now that we’d arrived before the Gate, all that remained was waiting.

We pitched tents outside the barrier and took turns dozing off to pass the time. Since we’d need to move immediately upon entering Beltraum, we kept our meals simple.

And so, before we knew it, it was 11:30 p.m.—just thirty minutes until the Gate reopened.

After packing up the tents and tidying our campsite, I clutched my pocket watch tightly, my heart pounding steadily in my chest.

Once inside Beltraum, Canis and his royal guard would protect Asperan, while the exploration team and Elkin would focus on surveying Beltraum.
